His eyes locked onto mine. “With you?” He hesitated, shutting his eyes for a moment before letting out a quiet sigh. “Yeah… I do.”
“Okay.” I leaned forward and kissed him softly, our lips clinging for a moment.
Simon pulled back. “Really?”
“Yeah.” I nodded. “But first, let's get me moved in, and then we’ll discuss it. We’ll keep using protection until then.”
A grin spread across his face. I’d never seen his smile that wide before.
“I like the sound of that. Come on, darlin’.” He slapped my thigh gently for me to stand. “Let’s get going so we can move this relationship forward. I want my patch on your back and my baby in your belly.”
He swept me up in his arms, bridal-style, and carried me into the house.
And I’d thought the man didn’t have a romantic bone in his body.
Possessive, definitely. Romantic… not so much.
CHAPTER 13
GLACIER
Not once in all my thirty-eight years had I thought about having kids. Not until a feisty brunette knocked me on my ass. With her, I could think of nothing I’d like more.
“What do you think?”
Juju turned in a slow circle, looking around the shop that Lurch had suggested as a feed store. “It could work. The back is plenty big enough for stock. It would need painting and a bit of a clean-up, but yeah… I can make it work for the feed store. We’ll need to do some work on panels to hide the guns, but I can show you what we have back at our shop. You can’t tell that there are secret panels.”
“Good,” I said, turning to Lurch. “You got the keys for next door?”
He nodded and held up his hand, the key dangling from his finger. Wasn’t sure why the man was interested in owning the hardware store, but I knew he’d have his reasons.
We stepped out of the store onto the sidewalk, waiting while Lurch locked up. Unease prickled the back of my neck, and I scanned the area.
Juju edged closer. “What’s wrong?”
“Not sure,” I murmured.
Nothing seemed out of place. The town was quiet as it usually was on a Sunday. Most of the residents would be attending church on the outskirts.
A sheriff’s vehicle drove slowly down Main Street, and I saw Abel behind the wheel. He gave me a subtle nod as he passed by.
Lurch moved past us to the hardware store, opening it up and ushering Juju in.
“Something’s coming,” he murmured under his breath as I walked past him.
I nodded. “Somebody's watching us.”
“I feel it.”
Juju walked around, taking in the space, but I knew her attention wasn’t on the shop.
She paused and looked at me. “What’s wrong?”
“Not sure,” I admitted. “I think someone’s watching us.”
She tilted her head, eyebrows knitted. “The ATF?”
“Maybe. Nothing much we can do about it now.” I walked towards her and wrapped an arm around her waist. “What are your thoughts on this place?”
