I held my hand up. “This is Aubrey.”

The center stone was the same square shape, but the band was wrapped in delicate diamonds. It was elegant and stunning without being too flashy.

Kate looked pleased, and I was gearing up to plead my case on behalf of the second ring, but Carter simply nodded.

“Then that’s the ring.”

I gasped and flung my arms around him. It was stupid. It’s not like it’s my ring, but I was so happy. Aubrey was getting the most perfect ring and she was going to marry her most perfect man.

Just thirty minutes later, we were walking out of the store. Carter was several thousand dollars poorer, but you’d never know it by looking at him. His smile made him look like he just won a million dollars.

He would be able to pick up the ring next week since they didn’t keep all sizes in stock.

“Do you have plans for how you’re going to ask?”

His eyes narrowed. “Can you keep that a secret?”

I considered it. “If I can keep Tiffany a secret, I can do anything, but I don’t want to know. I want Aubrey to tell me the story.”

That was something I didn’t want to take from her. I wanted to jump and scream with her as she told me each detail.

“That’s nice of you.”

“She deserves to have her own surprise to tell me, but you should let me know when so I can make sure her nails are done.”

He shook his head but agreed.

When we got back to my apartment, I reached across his car and hugged him. “I’m so happy for you.”

He gave me one squeeze before pulling back. “Thanks, Mac. And thanks so much for coming today. I probably would have picked something like a pink heart diamond in my state of shock.”

He noticed the face I made and laughed. “Exactly.”

“I’ll see you later.”

“Bye.”

I hurried up to my apartment and made sure Aubrey wasn’t back yet. We were in the clear, but now I had to keep the biggest secret from my best friend for at least a week! Carter better propose as soon as possible, because I didn’t know how long I could keep my mouth shut.
