I cut her off. “It’s great! We’ll have it perfected by Tuesday at the latest.”

She let out a breath looking slightly less stressed.

“After school, we’ll go over everything that still needs to be done. The junior varsity team is doing the backdrops, the floats are ready, the student council is over the dance. I’m pretty sure all we need to worry about is our cheers.”

“I still think we should have a halftime cheer ready just in case…”

“No. You’re going to be on the court, plus the underclassmen have their courts. We won’t have time for another one.”

She nodded slowly. “Okay.”

“I know this is a big night for you, but we’ve been planning for long enough. Don’t worry. Everything is going to come together.”

She sucked in a breath and stood straighter. “You’re right. I’m just stressing.”

I nudged her shoulder. “Go to class. If you think of anything else we can talk about it at lunch.”

“Thanks, April.”

I smiled and waved her off. That girl was going to put herself in an early grave.

We survived practice, despite Katie forcing us to run through our homecoming routine at least one hundred times. I was dripping sweat, so I hurried through a shower before work. I did have my limits even though it would make me a bit late.

Katie found me before I could leave the locker room. “How do you think we’re doing?”

The stress on her face was the only thing that stopped me from making a comment about her killing us.

“It’s fantastic, Katie. The routine is perfect. You’ve done a great job.”

She nodded and looked at the ground. “I just got the list of the court nominees.”

I rolled my eyes since she wasn’t looking. “And you and Kevin are on it, of course.”

Her shoulders slumped. “Like I need anything else to worry about!”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “You knew it would happen. We’ll just have to touch up your makeup before you get on the float. That’s the only thing that will change.”

“But you’re nominated, too!”

I fought the urge to groan. “Great! You can fix my make-up and I’ll fix yours. There no problem!”

“It means we have to wear long dresses.”

Ugh. I hated that rule. Every other girl would be wearing short dresses but since we were on the court we had to wear long. So stupid.

“That’s fine. Now we know what to look for this weekend.”

She still didn’t look relaxed.

“Katie, it’s going to be perfect. I promise. You’re not doing this on your own. Everything has been taken care of already. All you need to worry about is getting a dress and how you’re going to do your hair.”

“Down with soft curls.”

Of course, she already planned that.

“Great! This is practically done. No more stressing, okay? You need to enjoy this. It’s your last homecoming.” I could see her mind working. “In high school.”

She finally nodded. “You’re right. I should focus on having fun now.”
