She rolled her eyes.
“You get on my nerves; you’re so damn arrogant.”
“Nawl.” I laughed, pulling her tighter against me. “I’m just with a woman who loves me like she got good sense.”
“Just promise me one thing.”
I looked down at her. “What?”
“Don’t do nothing crazy behind this shit.”
My brows lifted.
“Define crazy.”
“Kyrie.”
I couldn’t help the grin that pulled at my lips.
“I’m serious.” She smacked my chest lightly. “You got too much to lose.”
“There you go with that shit again.”
“No, listen to me.” She pushed herself up a little higher. “I’m not saying don’t figure out what’s going on. I’m not even telling you not to handle it. I know who the hell I married.”
“Good.”
“But you don’t always have to go from zero to a hundred.”
“Sometimes a hundred be necessary.”
Her eyes narrowed.
“And sometimes your ass needs to think.”
I sucked my teeth, but she wasn't backing down.
“You got a wife now, Kyrie, and a baby on the way.” Her voice softened. “I need you here. Not suspended. Not hurt again, and not somewhere I can’t get to you because you decided to crash out over me.”
That wiped the smile off my face, and I stared at her, letting what she said settle. She wasn’t asking me to stop being me. She was asking me to remember I wasn’t just moving for myself anymore.
“Aight,” I finally said.
“Aight what?”
“I hear you.”
“That’s not a promise.”
“Because I’m not promising you I’ma sit on my hands while somebody fuck with my family.”
She opened her mouth, but I tightened my arm around her waist.
“But,” I added, “I promise you I’ma think before I move.”
She studied me like she was trying to decide if that was good enough.
“And you not gon’ do nothing that’ll fuck up your career?”
