“I can’t. I promised Andi and Dawn I’d go.” She’d skipped yoga last week, and she hadn’t spent time with them since she started seeing Flynn. She was determined to go tonight, if for no other reason than not wanting to be one of those women who changed her life for a man. Even if said man was pretty darn incredible. She leaned closer, enjoying taunting him. “Don’t you like me limber?”
“You know I do.” He inserted himself between her and the door. His arm circled her, and his hand slid down to her ass, resting there like a branding iron, scalding her through her thin skirt. “Then come over after.”
Karen appeared in her doorway behind him, and Sutton quickly stepped back. “Oh, good. Flynn. I was looking for you. Do you have a minute?”
“Can you give me five? I want to go over a few things with Sutton.”
Sutton heard the tension in his voice, and from the way Karen’s brows were slanting, she had a feeling she’d picked up on it, too. This was perfect payback. “No need. I understand what you want, Braden,” she said sharply, for Karen’s benefit. “I’ll do my best to satisfy all your tweaks. Now please get out of here and let me prepare.”
As he strode out of the room looking like a top that was wound too tight, Karen said, “Are you riding her too hard again?”
It took all of Sutton’s willpower not to laugh.
SUTTON LAY ON her back in Savasana, the final resting pose in her yoga class, trying to focus on the guided meditation the instructor was reciting and not how much she wanted to see Flynn. She’d never been clingy, and she didn’t feel like she was clingy. She just missed him and loved being with him. It was nice to be with someone smart and interesting, who she had things in common with and wasn’t afraid to talk or debate or share his feelings. He understood her in a way others didn’t. Their amazing sex was icing on the cake.
“And now, start moving your fingers and toes…” The instructor’s soothing voice eased them back to the present. “When you’re ready, roll onto your right side and come up to a comfortable seated position.”
Sutton was more than ready to go as she sat up. She glanced at Dawn and Andi, who looked as relaxed as if they’d just had massages.
“Thank you for sharing this space with me.” The instructor steepled her hands, closed her eyes, and bent forward. “Namaste.”
The class did the same, and then there was a murmur of voices as everyone rolled up their mats and thanked the instructor.
As Sutton headed out with Dawn and Andi, Dawn took out her ponytail holder, shaking her long blond hair free, and said, “I always leave yoga feeling like I’ve had great sex.”
Sutton and Andi looked at her like she’d lost her mind as they pushed through the glass doors and headed into the parking lot.
“I must be doing yoga wrong,” Andi said.
“Me too. I didn’t feel any thunder down under either,” Sutton said.
“You know what I mean,” Dawn said. “But speaking of thunder down under…The jig is up, Sutton. Who’s the guy?”
Worry hit her like a splash of cold water. “What guy?” She was dying to tell them about her relationship with Flynn, but she knew she couldn’t risk it.
“She thinks you’re seeing someone,” Andi said.
“Why would you think that?”
“You missed yoga last week, and every time we text you, you’re out.” Dawn stopped beside her car and parked a hand on her hip. “And last weekend you turned down a chance to be my taste tester for a new recipe, and we all know the only thing better than my goodies is thunder down under. So if you’re not getting my goodies, you’re definitely getting someone else’s.”
Sutton didn’t think it was possible, but Flynn’s goodies brought even more pleasure than Dawn’s baked goods. “As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve just been busy. Now that Flynn and I are getting along better, I’ve been working late and trying to keep up the good mojo.”
“I told you,” Andi said to Dawn.
Dawn sighed. “Well, that’s a bummer. I was hoping you’d found someone great.”
I have. I just can’t tell anyone other than Leni and Victory about him.
She had gushed like a schoolgirl to Leni, telling her how crazy about Flynn she was. Leni, being her overprotective sister, had been cautiously happy for her. Victory, on the other hand, had texted Sutton a few days after she’d called that first weekend and had caught them together. She’d told Sutton she was thrilled for them and couldn’t wait to get to know her better. It had been hard to coordinate their schedules since Victory was traveling on and off, but they’d planned a girls’ day with Leni the weekend after Archer’s wedding, and Sutton was looking forward to it.
“Sorry to disappoint you,” Sutton said, and headed to her car. “But I love you for wanting that for me.”
“Yeah, right. We all know you love me for my goodies,” Dawn teased. “Have a great night.”
“You too!” Sutton waved and climbed into her car.
Fifteen minutes later, she walked into her townhouse. She was toeing off her shoes when her phone chimed with a text.
