“I don’t think he’s like that. When we got together, he told me he hadn’t been with anyone for more than a year.”

“And you believed him?” Leni asked incredulously.

“You weren’t there. You didn’t hear the way he said it or see the look in his eyes. I know you don’t trust easily, but have a little faith in my judgment.”

They stopped behind a group of people at a crosswalk, and amusement rose in Leni’s eyes. “Says the girl who slept with her boss. A man who is now entertaining someone else.”

“Yes. I know. I hate this. I’m not a gullible person, Leni. You know that. But if I’ve completely misread our connection, what does that say about me?”

“Nothing bad. Think of it this way. Jules is a heart-on-her-sleeve kind of girl, and before Raz, I kept mine behind barbed wire. When it comes to this kind of thing, you’ve always been right in the middle of us. You look before you leap, but there’s no stopping your heart from getting involved. Unfortunately, you made an agreement with a man who isn’t like that, whether he sold you another bill of goods or not. Want me to give him hell?”

“God no. Although I should blame you for all of this.”

“This should be good,” Leni said sarcastically.

Sutton lowered her voice as they followed the crowd across the street. “How many times did you say, Just fuck him already and get it over with?”

“I clearly should’ve known better. But in my defense, when you called me from that assignment in Portugal, you lost your train of thought the second Flynn took off his shirt. Remember? I thought if you two hooked up, you’d get him out of your system. Now I guess we’re moving on to plan B.”

“We have a plan B? What is it? Shock treatments?”

“That would be plan C. Plan B is burying your misguided feelings in good food, strong drinks, and a hot guy.”

“Food and drinks, yes, but I’m done with men.”

“Wake up and smell the payback, baby. The least we can do is post a picture of you and a hot guy on social media for the jerk to see.”

“I doubt he’s ever looked at my social media.”

“Leave it to me. I’ll make sure he sees it.” Leni opened the door to the restaurant. “This place is amazing. You’re going to love the food.”

While Leni spoke to the hostess, Sutton took in the elegant candle-style chandeliers and two-story brick walls, one of which was lined with circle-head windows. She glanced at the back of the restaurant, where she could see a bar through three arched entranceways, and her gaze caught on the sandy-haired, broad-shouldered beast of a man sitting at a table by the farthest archway. Her stomach sank. Flynn held a drink in one hand, his attention on the brunette sitting across from him. Her back was facing Sutton, but her hair fell just past the shoulders of her black dress, and she was leaning forward, like she wanted him to catch every word she said.

“There’s about a forty-minute wait,” Leni said. “What’s wrong?”

“Look who’s here.”

Leni followed her gaze. “We can go someplace else, but how about I give him a piece of my mind first.”

“I love that you would do that for me, but I don’t need you fighting my battles, and we’re not leaving. You were right. I need to face the facts, and this forces me to do it.”

“Are you sure? There are plenty of other places to eat.”

“I’m positive. You and I are going to have a good time…and a gallon of alcohol. I might have to sleep on your couch. What are the chances that he’d come to this restaurant?”

Leni pressed her lips together, her brow wrinkling.

“What is that look for?”

“This is Seth’s restaurant.”

“Leni,” she whispered harshly. “Why did you take me to Seth’s restaurant after everything I just told you?”

“Because it’s good, and I didn’t think he’d come here. Doesn’t he live by you?”

“Leni?”

They turned at the deep voice, which belonged to a gorgeous man with wavy dark brown hair, scruff, and black-framed glasses.
