Damn, he missed her already.

He sat on the couch eating peanut butter cracker sandwiches, telling himself to stop thinking about her. He took a swig of water and rested his head back. His gaze landed on a spider on the wall, and the image of Sutton running out of the shower screaming and crashing into him came rushing back. He laughed and took a picture of the spider, then thumbed out a text to her.

Flynn: I think your friend followed me home. He added the picture of the spider.

His thumb hovered over the send icon. What the hell am I doing? What happened in the rainforest had to stay in the rainforest. Did that include inside jokes? He thought about her seeing the text in the morning and either blushing, laughing, or giving him shit for it. All three sounded damn good to him.

“Fuck it.” Hello, Denial, my old friend. He hit send and set his phone on the cushion to slather peanut butter on another cracker. His phone vibrated with a text a minute later.

Sutton: Why do all guys think one inch is equal to three? That spider is way smaller than mine was.

Flynn: You mean your shower stain?

An eye roll emoji popped up.

Sutton: You were too busy looking at my ass to see it.

Flynn: You’re not wrong.

She sent a smirking emoji.

Flynn: Actually, I saw your spider on the ceiling that morning in the hotel while you were snoring in my ear.

Sutton: SEE! I told you I wasn’t hallucinating. I knew there was a spider!

Sutton: You could have told me you saw it.

Flynn: That wouldn’t have been nearly as fun. Why are you awake at this hour?

Sutton: I slept all day and woke up starving a little while ago. You?

Flynn: Same.

He sent her a picture of a peanut butter cracker sandwich.

Flynn: Jealous?

She sent a picture of two empty packages of peanut butter crackers.

Sutton: What else you got?

Flynn: I think you know the answer to that. He added a winking emoji.

Three dots danced on the screen. He waited with bated breath for her snarky retort, but the dots disappeared. His gut clenched. He shouldn’t have gone there. He started to type an apology, but a picture of batteries popped up.

Sutton: All of the pleasure. None of the hassle.

Flynn: Are you using images of me for inspiration?

Sutton: I left those in the rainforest and googled your brothers.

He scoffed.

Sutton: What are you doing?

Flynn: Not myself.

She sent a laughing emoji.
