“Leni,” her mother chided.

“What? It’s true,” Leni insisted. “So they never forget how special we are.”

“Honey, look around you,” her mother said. “Do you see a single weak woman in this room? Because what I see is a room full of strong, loyal, compassionate women, who not only stand up for themselves but for each other.”

“Darn right we are,” Jules exclaimed, and everyone concurred.

Leni looked at Sutton and said, “As true as that may be, a little backup never hurt.”

“You’re never going to change, and I love that about you.” Sutton hugged her. “Just so you know, Flynn does, too.”

“Great,” Leni said sarcastically. “There goes my street cred.”

They all laughed.

“And now Flynn’s going to be waiting for you at the bottom of the stairs,” her grandmother reminded her.

Sutton thought of all the years she’d been getting ready for events with her sisters, and other than high school dances, she’d never had anyone waiting downstairs for her. “I’ve got butterflies.”

“That’s how you know it’s real,” her mother said. “I still get butterflies when your father walks into a room.”

“You’re making me nervous. Let’s stop talking about me. This is Indi’s big day,” Sutton said. “Indi, have you and Archer decided on where you’re going for your honeymoon yet?” They’d decided to take their honeymoon in the winter when her cosmetic shop and the winery were slower.

“We’re still tossing around ideas,” Indi said. “We don’t care where we go, as long as there’s a king-size bed and room service.”

Daphne made a gagging sound. “Excuse me.” She ran into the bathroom, and everyone exchanged concerned glances.

“Did she eat something bad?” their mother asked.

“I didn’t see her eat anything. I hope it’s not the stress of coordinating the wedding,” Indi said. “She’s been working so hard.”

Their mother knocked on the bathroom door. “Honey, are you okay?”

They heard her retching.

“Is Mama sick again?” Hadley asked.

“Has she been sick today, Had?” Leni asked.

Hadley nodded. “She’s been sick a lot. Daddy talks to her belly, and it makes her feel better.”

Their eyes bloomed wide.

“Does he do that a lot, Had?” Sutton asked.

Hadley nodded, eyes trained on her coloring book. “Every night.”

The bathroom door opened, and all those wide, happy eyes turned to Daphne.

“What? Did I get something on my dress?” She looked down at her dress.

“Hadley told us that Jock talks to your belly,” Jules exclaimed. “Are you…?”

Jules looked at Hadley, and Sutton was glad Jules knew enough to keep that last part under wraps, leaving Hadley out of the secret.

“Oh gosh. Um…” Daphne looked happy and worried at once, smiling and nervously covering her mouth.

“That’s a yes,” their grandmother said.
