And right before my eyes, he kisses the woman and my heart tightens in a way I know it shouldn’t for this man.
This monster.
Chapter Twelve
Sienna
“Who is this?” I ask before I can stop myself.
Dante stops kissing the woman with a laugh that makes my spine tense. “Who is this? She’s the woman I’m going to fuck tonight.”
I flinch. The thought of Dante touching another woman… it shouldn’t bother me and yet, it does.
“Who is this?” The woman asks, looking between me and Dante. “I didn’t sign up for a threesome. But…” Her eyes flick to mine. “I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”
“No threesome,” Dante says. “Sienna isn’t joining. This is Anna. She and I will spend some time together tonight. I suggest you go back to your room.”
He’s pushing me away. After wanting me so much, Dante is creating distance between us. But why? None of it makes any sense.
And why does it bother me so much?
I think back to how he saved me after Edward beat me. How he bathed me. Washed my hair. The kindness in his eyes for a moment. The worry. The way he opened up to me.
All of that is gone. Why did I even let myself feel hope for a moment? I can’t have feelings for this monster.
“Fine,” I say through tight lips. “I don’t want you anyway.”
Dante’s lips turn into a sneer but I walk away. If he thinks he’s going to bother me, he can think again.
I go back into his private library and sit down with my book. I would rather read than be stuck in my bedroom while Dante spends time with Anna.
The door bursts open.
I gasp. Dante is in the doorway, breathing heavy. “What are you doing in here? Shouldn’t you be with Anna?” When he doesn’t respond, I keep talking. “I’m curious. Why do you even have a library to begin with? You don’t seem like the kind of man who likes to read.”
“You don’t know everything about me. I like to read. Other times I like to burn books for fun.”
I shake my head. “I don’t believe you.”
“You know how crazy I am.”
“I do. But sometimes I think you put on an act. Sometimes I think you want people to think you’re truly crazy.”
He storms over to me and rips the book out of my hands. “That’s because I am crazy.”
“Why are you in here?”
“Anna was boring me so I came in here.”
“I thought you were going to have sex with her.”
“I was. I am. How does that make you feel?”
I narrow my eyes, staring him down. Dante doesn’t scare me as much as he once did. “Are you trying to make me upset? Why would you do that?”
“I’m not trying to make you feel anything.”
“Ok then. So go and let me enjoy the book I was reading before you rudely took it from me.”
