“I love you, Chloe.” I’d never wanted to say these three words more than I did right now.

“I love you, too, Aiden. So much.”

One moment we were grinning at one another, and the next she was attacking my clothing.

I lifted her up in my arms and chuckled at the way she squealed at the action before carrying her into the bedroom. It was an action I’d pictured doing for weeks. One that I was able to perform, now that my leg was feeling strong. After putting her on her feet, I wasted no time in stripping her out of her clothing.

“I missed you so fucking much,” I rasped, my hands trailing down her skin. I wanted to touch her everywhere at once. I walked her to the bed and followed her down on top of the comforter. I quickly shed my last article of clothing.

“Are you okay with me bare?” It wouldn’t be right to assume she was still on the pill or wanted to go without protection.

“Yes. It’s only been you, Aiden.”

My fingers tucked her hair behind her ears. “You don’t know how much I wanted to hear it despite knowing I have no right to. It’s only been you, too, Chloe.”

I pushed in slowly and both of us released a collective moan at the sensation of me filling her. “Christ, you feel good.”

“You, too. God, I missed this.”

My thrusts were measured, slow, and languid while my fingers reached between us to strum her clit. Her pussy gripped me once she reached her climax, practically insisting I go over the edge with her. My climax was punctuated with a satisfied growl.

For a while, I lay there inside of her, in no hurry to move away and taking my sweet time in exploring her mouth again. Reluctantly, I finally pulled out, dropping one last kiss to her forehead before getting off the bed.

“I’ll be right back.” I slid my boxers on but didn’t bother to cover my prosthesis. My days of hiding my body from her were over.

Her eyes tracked me as I came back into the bedroom carrying the McDonald’s bag in one hand and two waters in another.

“What do you have?”

I grinned. “Didn’t feel like a proper reunion without cheeseburgers.”

“A half-naked man delivering me cheeseburgers—this may be the best reunion ever.”

She took the offered burger while I rifled around in my duffle bag on the floor. After pulling out the packet of unopened letters, held together with rubber bands, I dumped them on the bed.

She eyed the un-mailed letters, each addressed to her. “What are these?”

“Letters I wrote you over the last six weeks. There’s over twenty of them.” Giving them to her exposed my vulnerability, but now I trusted her with it.

“What do they say?” She ran her fingers over her name on the envelopes.

I sat back on the bed, facing her. “They say how much I missed you. How much I regretted leaving you. How sorry I was to have hurt you, how much I love you, and how much I wanted you to wait for me. I’ve never been scared a day in my life. Not when I left home for the military, not when I went to war, and not even when I went back to Iraq six weeks ago. But you were right. I was scared to love you.”

Her mouth ticked up. “I’m not so scary. I promise.”

“I know that now. But without a doubt, loving you is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done. It involves the most I’ve ever had to lose. But if I get it right, then it’s everything I’ve ever wanted, to be here with you.”

“We’ll have to make sure we get it right, then.”

I took her lips, realizing I had everything I’ve craved, everything I’d ever wanted right here with me.

Later, while eating the last of our cheeseburgers, naked and in bed. I noticed her looking around the bare bedroom. Although it was furnished, I’d done little more than make the bed and dump my things in the closet.

“What do you think of the apartment?” Nerves hit me. There was a very real chance she wouldn’t be ready to take this step, especially since I’d only just asked for her forgiveness.

She paused mid-bite. “You want me to move in with you?”

“Yes. If you’re ready for this step? If not, then we’ll wait. But I have to say I’d be a pretty awesome roommate.”
