She hesitated but finally said, “Two thousand a week.”
I wasn’t surprised, considering the stakes of stripping when it was illegal and the fact I’d laid down ten grand to enter and another five hundred for the privilege of a lap dance.
“How many nights?”
“Two. Only on the weekends. And holidays. They were short-handed this week which is why I went in tonight.”
“Fine. I’ll pay you the same.”
“For what?”
Before I could second-guess it, I put it out there. “To spend your weekends with me instead.”
Chapter Thirteen
Chloe
“Come again?” I couldn’t have heard Aiden correctly. Matter of fact, this entire night was surreal. The restaurant invitation, the wine-tasting lesson, him walking into the club and my climaxing on top of him, and now the fact he was sitting across from me in my living room.
“I’ll pay you the same to spend your weekends with me.”
Fury bubbled up inside of me along with a great deal of hurt. Being a stripper didn’t make me a prostitute. “I’m not a whore.”
His entire face turned red. “I didn’t mean to imply you were. Jesus. I meant for a job. I work most weekends and could use the help.”
As tempting as his offer was, I couldn’t possibly leave Teagan on her own. “No, thanks.”
His jaw tensed. “You’d rather take off your clothes for strangers?”
“I have obligations.”
“Like what? Are they forcing you? Is this some sort of indebted servitude?”
“No. It’s not. But I have a friend who does it with me. I can’t leave her.”
“Your roommate?”
I kept my mouth shut, but it was clear I’d already said too much. Great, now I’d implicated Teagan in an illegal activity.
He was gripping his neck. “Do you both realize this could not only cost you your jobs, but also land you in a foreign jail? God only knows what they’d do to you there. We’re talking years, Chloe.”
Although I was aware of the risks, I didn’t actively think about them. “I know.”
“I can’t allow you to continue to work there.” He was up and pacing, oblivious to how much I had riding on this.
“Last time I checked, you don’t have to allow or disallow anything. I’m an adult.”
“You’re an adult working for a high-profile security firm while doing something illegal.”
“Then I’ll quit.”
“You’d lose your housing and your work visa to stay in the country.”
His answer highlighted how irrationally I was thinking. But the stakes had been raised, and I couldn’t back down.
“There are plenty of girls who have their visas through the club. And I can find another place to live.”
He stopped, staring at me while I tried to hold it together without giving in to tears.
