Sounds like this Dusty guy is benching the girl. Keeping her waiting on the side while he goes off and has his fun. But if she starts to stray too far and wants to call it quits from the game, he’ll put her back in for a few plays and warm her up again. I know guys like him. They’re the real players. Me, I’m always up front with my intentions. Never led a woman astray and had her thinking I wanted more.
Never found one I wanted more with.
“How long did she date the guy?”
“They started dating in the eighth grade and were together all throughout high school. He used to be a nice guy. But once he joined the police academy, his ego started to inflate, and he completely changed.” No wonder. He’s a fucking cop. They think because they carry a gun and a badge that they hold the power, but it’s us Knights that rule this town. Everyone including the sheriff knows that. “Now, he’s just a controlling jerk. But I think it’s hard for her, you know?” She pulls into her parking spot. “He’s the only guy she’s ever been with, so I think part of her problem is fear of the unknown. It’s easier to fall back in the familiar and do what’s comfortable.”
She’s only been with one man? Damn. No wonder she’s giving me such a hard time. But I think I’m the perfect man for the job. I can help her get past all those fears and show her exactly what she’s missing out on. I can make her body crave something different than what she’s used to.
“I’m going to take a shower,” she says as we enter their apartment. “Like I said, feel free to use Chassie’s bathroom. She won’t be back until later. By the way, thanks for your help today. I know Cage didn’t send you here to work.”
He didn’t, but if she thinks I’m going to stand by and watch her do all the heavy lifting, she’s crazy.
“Sitting idly by and watching an old lady shovel shit without lending a hand feels all kinds of wrong, doll. I’m just waiting for the day Cage makes you put down the shovel all together.”
“But I love working with the horses.”
Which is exactly why he’s still letting her work so hard. Knowing him, he’d want to give her her own ranch and a million horses, along with an entire crew of ranch hands to do the dirty work for her. But he would never stop her from doing what she loves.
“I think you should go use that shower now, mister. You kind of stink.” She giggles as she walks off down the hall to her bedroom and I turn to face Chassie’s closed door. She’s at work, which means I have free rein to snoop. It’s like being let into her world.
I slowly creak the door open as if she might hear me coming. The mess I see scattered around her room has me smiling. It’s just like her. A little wild. Not as concerned with conventions as she is concerned with her convictions. I step in and reach for the first item I see on her floor—a little black satin pair of panties. Even her underwear is a little edgier.
I bet she looks hot as hell in these. All those curves on display. The girl has one hell of an ass and I’m sure she fills these out nicely.
I bring them to my nose, unable to resist.
She even smells fiery. Sexy as hell with a hint of sweetness underneath that spice. I can’t wait to get me a taste. I want to watch her let loose as I lick between her legs. Hear her scream asI suck on her clit. Damn, now I’m going to need to run that water cold. Or better yet… I’ll soap up my hands and clean my pipes. Could definitely use a release of this tension before that girl gets home, because one look at her, and this current situation will be unbearable.

Isend his call to voicemail. It’s the second time Dusty’s tried to reach me today. I think he knows Miranda saw him last night with his date and now he’s trying to run interception. At this point, I don’t even care anymore what he does with other women. My attachment to Dusty seems to be fading faster by the day. When Miranda told me she saw him making out with a girl in the movie theater last night, I didn’t even feel sick to my stomach or riddled with jealousy. My mind drifted back to Preacher and the little bet we’ve got going.
I actually can’t wait to get home. I’ve been looking forward to seeing him all day. I’m wondering what his next move is going to be. Whether he’ll try to use those smooth words to get me to kiss him. I may not let him win the game, but I can certainly have fun playing it.
When my phone dings with a text from Dusty, I can’t help but roll my eyes.
Rockland:Hey babe, it’s me. Been trying to reach you today, but you must be busy at work. I miss you and was thinking it was time we got back together. Things are slowing down at work. In fact, I’m off the clock tomorrow night and wanted to take you out. What do you say? Will you give your Dusty boy another chance? This time I promise to do things right.
This is what he does. Every time he knows he fucked up, he comes crawling back. He lassos me right in, gets me thinking that an engagement is right around the corner, that we’re going to be walking down the aisle, and then—he finds some excuse for why we can’t get married right now. School is too stressful, work is too busy, we can’t afford a wedding. We should have our finances figured out first before we walk down the aisle.
My mind drifts back to Preacher, and I shake my head. I don’t need to go falling for another guy who isn’t capable of commitment. In a few days, he’ll be going back to the sweetbutts, enjoying all the attention those girls offer. I definitely don’t need to tempt myself into that toxic situation and wind up feeling even worse about myself.
“Honey, I’m home,” I call out as I enter my apartment. I’m actually early today. I couldn’t wait to get home, so I got all of my tasks done ahead of schedule. It’s amazing what one can get done when motivated to get out of that place. I cleaned all the animal cages and sanitized every surface. By the time I was done, the place looked spick-and-span, and the animals had all had their shots and their walks, and Dr. Scarbin was pleased. But poor Miranda thought I was working off my anger and heartache on the floors after what she’d told me. I wasn’t thinking about Dusty at all. I was thinking of the man who’s nowhere in sight.
Preacher must’ve gone with Payton on her walk.
That at least gives me a chance to get showered before I see him. I don’t want to smell like wet dog again today. Wet dog mixed with ammonia. Gross.
I enter my bedroom and hear the shower running. Along with… the sound of a low groan.
“Oh, fuck. That’s it, baby. Take me all the way down that throat.”
You’ve got to be kidding me. Is he in my bathroom fucking someone? The nerve!
I storm in ready to tell him and his slut to get the fuck out, but… he’s all alone. There isn’t anyone with him. He’s stroking his own cock with a fisted grip as he stands under the shower spray. All the rivulets of water running over every carved muscle, running down his dark patch of hair, down into his dark curls…
