It was a statement that invited an answer, a discussion of their problems. Flynn took a deep breath and licked his lips.

“Get over it,” he said.

NATE THEseagull was eating chips off the grass when Flynn got back to the lighthouse. He gave Flynn the accusing, beady eye of a gull that had missed breakfast and flapped off to a rock to finish his greasy largesse. Flynn left him to it and followed the trail around to the strip of land behind the lighthouse.

“Teddy was fine,” he said.

Nate glanced up at him. He’d left the jacket off and not bothered to tuck his shirt in, or put the tie back on. He looked like a groom’s man that had gotten lucky.

“Are you sure about this?” he asked. “It really is a lot of money.”

Flynn sat down next to him and slung an arm over his shoulder. “Well, youareofficially my most expensive boyfriend ever,” he said. Nate groaned and dropped his head back against Flynn’s arm. “I figure if I let you Airbnb this place to bridal parties we can make it back, though.”

It was somewhere between funny and insulting how quickly that prospect perked Nate up. “Really?” he said.

“Why not?” Flynn shrugged. “Of course, it means I’ll need somewhere to stay when it’s in use.”

The smile that slid over Nate’s face was that sly, foxy one that had lured Flynn into his misbegotten bad-boyfriend plot in the first place. He thought he might love that smile.

“My neighbor is going to hate you,” Nate said wickedly. “With any luck she’ll move.”

Flynn curled his arm around Nate’s neck and dragged him closer. He slanted a kiss over his jaw, the stubble rough against his lips, and up to the corner of Nate’s mouth.

“No more bad boyfriend,” he said.

Nate paused for a second and then leaned into the kiss. He cupped the side of Flynn’s face in one hand. “I can live with that.”
