The corners of her mouth come up slightly at my words. Good.

“Speaking of what we’re going to do…together…I have some plans.”

“So do I,” I say, as my eyes find her lips and I can’t help but roll my lower lip under my upper one.

Her lips part and she freezes as a moment passes between us. She bites down on her lower lip and damn does she ever look so sexy yet so innocent at the same time.

Innocent…just like I know she must be. Like she’s been saving herself for me all these years, even when she didn’t even know I existed. I’m making my presence known right now, and I’ve got lost time to make up for too.

We’ve got lost time to make up for.

Without breaking our staring contest, which has my dick ready to fire rockets of seed inside her this very moment, I reach my hand out and take her by the wrist.

I almost have to grab twice to get it, it’s so feminine and small. But no need, because I manage to get her pulse point on the first try and I can feel her heartbeat speeding along like a freight train…or is that mine?

It’s hard to distinguish as we’re literally beating in rhythm, and that’s not the only rhythm we’re going to discover we share. I know it for a fact.

I already know our bodies are going to fit together like gloves as we writhe in my sheets, the two of us becoming one. It’s just a matter of time, yet time is what I don’t have a lot of right now. Two weeks to be exact…and after yesterday we’re down to thirteen days. Lucky thirteen, just like the Irish and I’m the luckiest of all my countrymen in the history of our nation.

I lead her over to the two chairs that face my desk. I don’t want to be in the authoritative position behind it looking down at her. I want her to know we’re on the same page. She needs to know that we’re equals in every way. And she doesn’t need to know I was staring at her picture, and I need some more time for the screensaver to take over my monitor.

My hand slides up her forearm as I help her into her seat.

She turns her knees away like a lady as she sits down and it takes everything in me not to look down her top.

I fail miserably, ogling her cleavage like a schoolboy who’s never seen a woman before. She makes every other woman on the planet invisible. Every woman now, before her, and into the future…except of course all the children we’re going to make. Our own little women…who won’t date until they’re forty.

I sit beside her as I watch her unveil her well thought out plans with such enthusiasm and vitality that I can’t help but be impressed and completely taken by her mind. Even the way she speaks is beautiful. Her words come out of her mouth very lightly, yet rapidly, and it sure doesn’t hurt that I get to focus on her lips as she speaks.

I’m a dirty fucker imagining where I want to see those lips later…after I claim them first.

“So. What do you think?”

“I think it’s great, but it’s way above our budget.”

“You want to do something simple and cheap? I’ve got plans for that. I thought to work through that too in case we were going for a reduced approach.”

“Reduced approach?”

“Yeah, you know. Targeting a different market.”

As much as I want this woman, and I will have her, I also want her to know how much respect I have for the people of my community. I need to make sure she feels the same way I do, because soon this will be her community too.

“Just because we’re not from the big city, from Boston, doesn’t mean we’re podunk. We may be a small town, but we’re not dumb. As a matter of fact, North Adams is home to the largest contemporary art museum in the United States, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.”

She smirks and now she’s got me totally confused.

“By reduced approach I mean a budget with a lower price point for small town folk with big city minds, knowing a lot of people here have chosen to leave the big city for this life.”

“And you will one day too. Soon.”

“I…what?”

“Choose to live here.”

“In North Adams.”

“With me.”

CHAPTER 8

Marilyn

The next day

The light across from the police station parking lot turns red and I slap the wheel. The car in front of me was too slow and I got caught at the light.

Part of me is mad because I’m in a hurry to get this parade project started, but the real reason I’m on edge is because it means another thirty seconds until I get to see Danny.
