I grit my teeth.
“She doesn’t even know what she wants. One minute it’s you, then it’s Miles, then Jude. She’ll get tired of juggling. And you’ll be left standing there like an idiot.”
“Fuck off.”
“You know what? Maybe I should talk to Lola,” she says. “Tell her a few things. Clear the air.”
I cross my arms. “What exactly would you tell her? I never touched you and you know it.”
“What about her brother? You think Wes is gonna be cool with his little sister getting passed around by his best friends?”
My jaw tightens.
She sneers at me. “You think you’re going to come out of this with anything other than heartbreak and a wrecked friendship?”
I fold my arms. “You don’t care about my friendship with Wes.”
Her mouth curls. “No. But I care about watching you fall from your fucking pedestal.”
“You only care about being the center of attention. That’s all this is. And you’re not worthy of anyone’s attention.”
Her smile fades.
Her eyes narrow, and for a second, I think she might throw her coffee at me. Instead, she scoffs and walks past me.
I listen to her footsteps retreat down the hall, then the sharp slam of her bedroom door. I grip the counter and let my head drop forward.
She won’t be the last person to throw shit at us. She’s just the first.
I don’t care what Gigi thinks. But I am worried that Lola may have heard our conversation.
As if summoned by my thoughts, Lola rounds the corner in leggings and a tank. Her hair is pulled into a messy knot and her face is still soft with sleep. She pauses when she sees me, then her eyes flick toward the hallway Gigi disappeared down.
“Was that what I think it was?”
I don’t answer right away. Instead, I put my hand around her waist and pull her in. She smiles up at me as I lean down and press a slow kiss to her mouth.
“Nothing important,” I say. “Just clearing a few things up.”
Her brows rise. “Sounded like more than nothing.”
I tip her chin up with my fingers and trace a path to the warm curve of her neck.
I can’t help myself. I lower my mouth to hers and kiss her again.
“She tried to rope my goat,” I tell her. “Didn’t work though.”
Her eyes search mine for something. I don’t know if she finds it, but she doesn’t pull away when I lean in.
I slide my hand to the back of her neck and I kiss her again, harder this time. I want her to feel every ounce of what she does to me. God, I can’t get enough of this girl.
When I pull back, her cheeks are flushed.
“Do you mind if I tag along to the studio today?” I ask. “I could make a few social posts, try to bring in some clients.”
She tilts her head, eyes narrowing. “You want to hang out at the studio?”
“I want to be where you are.”
