As angry as Aziel is at me, he’s twice as pissed at Silas.
Aziel’s never expected much from me, and it’s well known that I tend to have strong reactions to situations that might not always call for one. Silas, though, he’s always been the voice of reason. He’s calm, and he thinks things through before making decisions.
“Say you won’t leave,” I demand. “If you try, I’ll follow, and you don’t want me in the dragon realm. I’ll make a mess of everything, and you’ll spend the entire time trying to keep me from getting my head bit off.”
Silas raises a brow. His lips twitch as he fights a smile, and after a second, he blows out a slow breath and nods. We both know I’m being serious.
“Very well.”
I open my mouth to make him say more, but the sound of Charlie’s hurried footsteps distracts me. She doesn’t so much as look in the doorway as she rushes past, the female making a pointed effort not to acknowledge us.
Silas and I both watch her pass.
“She’s been busy these past few days,” Silas acknowledges.
I’m aware of that.
Just because we haven’t been speaking doesn’t mean I’m not keeping tabs on every little thing she does. I try not to, but I can’t help myself.
“Aziel’s taking her to the shifter lands tonight,” Silas continues.
That, I didnotknow. I gesture for him to explain, but he only shrugs before returning his focus to his books.
Why would Aziel be taking her to the shifters?
I know he has her working on a list of tasks, but I don’t see why she needs to go to the shifter lands to complete them. Aziel has a phone she can use, and I know he gave her a laptop so she could communicate through email.
The shifters have fucking email, don’t they?
Most breeds picked up the human form of communication over a hundred years ago, and it’s widely used across most realms. They should have fucking email.
Silas sighs as I stand and leave the library, and I hear him following me as I storm to Aziel’s office. Silas steps into the room behind me and leans against the wall.
“Yes?” Aziel asks.
“Why are you going to the shifter lands?”
Aziel shoots Silas a hard look before turning back to me. “Charlie and I are going to be speaking to them about their alliance with Mammon,” he explains.
I tap my foot against the ground. We’ve been handling the female issue as a group, and I don’t like that he’s segmenting the work.
“And why didn’t you inform me?” I ask.
“Are you about ready to—” Charlie’s voice trails off as she steps into the room and sees Silas and me.
Her cheeks turn impossibly red, and I gulp as I notice a giant piece of hair she forgot to put in her ponytail. My fingers twitch with the need to fix it, and it takes everything in me to hold back.
She cheated on me, on all of us, and I’m not going to forgive her just because she’s cute and soft. No amount of apologies will remove the shifter’s touch from her, and I don’t trust her not to do it again when she feels lonely.
My heart aches for Aziel as I watch him grin at her. He’s so childlike in his love, and I hope she doesn’t end up hurting him.
Cheaters don’t change, and I suck my lips into my mouth as I watch Charlie approach his desk. She looks so fucking genuine as she looks at him, but I refuse to be fooled by it. Not again. She looked at Silas and me the same way once upon a time—she still does—yet she had no issues letting another man and woman touch her.
Silas’s hand on my waist settles me slightly, and I lean against his chest for more. I’m sure it’s not fun for him to watch me obsess after the female who betrayed us, but I can’t help it.
“Come here, Silas,” Aziel orders.
What the fuck does he want with Silas? Silas frowns as I pull away, his eyebrows furrowing as he steps forward and approaches Aziel. I watch them through narrowed eyes, not trusting Aziel as far as I can throw him.
