The only other time he’d been this upset was when he made a joke about being locked away with a corpse, and that hadn’t ended well.

Living things were touchy when it came to emotions.

Clearly.

While he was trying, Rinnon was at a huge disadvantage on this one without his mate, Flynn, to talk him through it.

“Please,” he said. “I can’t be me without him. He’s half me, and I need the logical part of Flynn, so I don’t go out and create a bunch of mess we have to clean up.”

That was a good point.

Rinnon at the helm was a nightmare on a good day.

So, Jolie tried to help.

Flynn, come out and talk to me.

When there was no answer, she was worried. This might just be the one thing that caused them to break Flynn. He was not one to hide, and she could feel him breaking down.

He was deep within himself and crying. Jolie could feel his emotions and hear the soft sobs of someone who had been blindsided by his only other weak spot.

It was time to get Death to help.

Jacques, we have a problem.

It took him a few seconds to reply to her, and she knew he was likely working, but it didn’t matter.

Flynn.

Came.

First.

He could let the world burn.

I’m in the middle of…

Jolie wasn’t having it.

PERIOD.

Flynn won’t come out. I don’t care what you’re in the middle of, Jacques. Put the Death suit away and be a spouse. He’s hurting! You’re part of this marriage, and now, he needs you. Get your ass here now or it is my wrath all the men in this relationship will have to handle! Trust me when I sayDEATHhasNOTHINGon me when I’m pissed!

Clearly, Jolie’s tone said it all.

Death hauled ass.

When Jacques appeared, he looked just as worried as they did.

Oh, and he was.

For a few reasons.

As he’d been trying to figure this out, he’d noticed one very bad thing. There were names disappearing from hisBook of the Damned.

He’d been in the middle of researching why it was happening and came up with one conclusion.

FATE.
