“I hate to interrupt the two of you, but your brother sent me to look for you,” Kathy said.

“Tell him, I’m busy,” he replied. I looked at him sternly and he just grinned. “I’m just joking, Kathy. We are coming.”

He still didn’t let me go. “I thought we were going?” I reminded him.

“If I go now, everyone will know the effect you have on me.”

He pulled me up against him again, and I knew exactly what he meant. I was glad to know that I wasn’t the only one hot and bothered by that kiss.

I called out to Kathy and said, “Tell him we’ll be there in a couple of minutes.”

“Fine. I’ll let him know,” she said and walked away.

Mayson smiled. “Do you know how tempted I am to pick you up and carry you to my car and drive away?”

“If it weren’t your brother’s wedding, I wouldn’t put up an argument.”

“Any problem with us leaving early so we can finish what we started?” he asked.

Say no. Don't do this. It’s not going to end well.

“Not before they cut the cake,” I said.

He looked into my eyes and said, “You’re all the dessert I need.”

The heat rushed to my core, and I knew that tonight, I was going to cross the line and break my own heart. But I’d rather it be broken and get this time with Mayson now than never have it at all.

CHAPTER 10

Mayson

I never knew a wedding could last so long. Kathy’s toast seemed to go on forever. I should’ve expected that with her. Had to give her credit. It wasn’t just rambling. They were heartfelt words. Everyone there could tell how happy she was for her best friend. Raya was crying, but what surprised me was Crystal bawling her eyes out.

I knew I didn’t do well with tears, and I’d been excellent at avoiding them most of my life. But I couldn’t bring myself to walk away from Crystal. All I could do was wrap an arm around her shoulder and let her bury her face in my tuxedo jacket. She must have thanked me at least ten times, telling me that she normally wasn’t this emotional. Funny. I wasn’t normally that caring.

With all that crying, I’d have thought she’d want to leave even earlier. But no. It was like a bond between all the women there, and Crystal insisted we stay to the end. It went on for hours. Even when it came time to eat, I’d never seen anything like it.There was course after course. Funny, Crystal grinned because it started with a salad.

It wasn’t as though the entire wedding dragged on. There was one part that could've lasted forever, and I wouldn’t have minded one bit. A slow dance with Crystal in my arms. We fit perfectly, and I even stole a few kisses before the music stopped. I had known that people were looking, but I didn’t care.Let them talk.Nothing was going to get me to let her go. Even now in the car, our fingers were entwined.

“You look tired,” I said, hoping she wasn’t.

“I am. A little.”

I wanted to invite her to my house, carry her to my bed and make love to her all night. My cock ached for her, but I needed to do the right thing.

“I guess I should bring you home and get you to bed,” I said.

With her head leaning against the seat, she turned and looked at me. “What are my options?”

Fuck. Don’t do that to me while driving.

It was late and the roads were dark. Dangerous enough without a major distraction like that.

“You could come to my house if you’d like,” I offered and waited.

If she was smart, she’d turn me down. I wasn’t good enough for her. She’s amazing. A giver. A healer. Not sure she had it in her to hurt a person. I on the other hand had a list of people who weren’t my fans. I didn’t intentionally hurt them. Never lied to them. I made sure they each knew what they were getting. A confirmed bachelor. Yet, in the end, they still were hurt.

I hadn’t shared any of that with Crystal. I needed to.
