“Rachelle.” He had to know she’d come to him or he wouldn’t be able to rest.

A sigh. “I’ll come if I need you. But I won’t.”

He had to smile. Good enough. “I’ll be awake in three hours.”

She frowned.

“I’ve operated on less sleep in the field. Don’t worry.” Knowing she cared so much felt good. No, her concern felt like a miracle. With a squeeze of her fingers, he went to his room and laid down. Within seconds, he was out.

At the three-hour mark, he woke, fully alert. He listened for movement from Rachelle’s room. Not hearing anything, he rolled out of bed and showered.

When he emerged from his room dressed in black cargoes and t-shirt, Cal stepped into the hallway and started to turn toward Rachelle’s room to check on her when he heard her laughter coming from the first floor. He also caught the scent of food. Who was cooking? Jon and Eli were decent cooks.

Brody turned from the front window and nodded in greeting as Cal passed through the living room on the way to the kitchen.

His eyes widened when he saw Rachelle pulling a baking dish from the oven, then grabbing the second one a moment later.

Eli clapped him on the shoulder. “About time you woke up, sleeping beauty.”

“Who got two extra hours of sleep?” he reminded his teammate. “Oh, yeah. That would be you.”

“Feels amazing, too. My first decent night’s sleep since my daughter’s birth.”

“And you don’t regret one minute of lost sleep, either.”

A grin. “Nope.”

A twinge of envy hit Cal. He loved Eli and Brenna’s daughter. Thank goodness she looked more like her gorgeous mother than her SEAL father. Seeing the three of them together made him want the same for himself.

Cal’s gaze slid to Rachelle. Did she want a family? A conversation for later. He had no intention of talking about that with his teammates within hearing distance. He gathered her against him and dropped a light kiss on her mouth. “Good morning.”

“Again.” She smiled. “I made a breakfast casserole if you’re hungry.”

“Smells great.” Not as good as her, though. If they didn’t have an audience, he’d be tempted to nibble on her neck. “All of us cook a little. We’re not chefs like Nate Armstrong on the Durango team, but we hold our own. You don’t have to cook.”

“I enjoyed having something to keep my hands and mind busy.” She glanced around at the other men in the room who stared at them with grins on their faces. “Don’t let the food grow cold.”

Cal frowned at them. What was their problem? Nosy parkers.

Eli squeezed her shoulder. “Thanks for making breakfast, sugar. You should eat, too. We need to leave soon.”

She looked at Cal. “Where are we going?”

“A ranch not far from here.”

“All of us? Eric and Amy, too?”

He shook his head. “Wolf Pack and you. The rest are staying here.”

Her expression sobered. “Zane confirmed I’m the target.”

“I’m sorry.”

She rested her head on his chest. “I wish I knew why a terrorist group wants to kill me.”

“We’ll figure out who’s behind the threat and why.”

She sighed. “When?”
