“Kitchen,” came the response.

He and Jackson hurried toward the back of the house. Cal stopped when he saw Mrs. Grady weeping in David’s arms, the side of her face streaked with blood.

His gaze swept the room, breath stalling in his lungs. No Rachelle. Cal turned back to David. “Where’s Rachelle?”

“They took her before we arrived. I’m sorry, Cal. We have a BOLO out on them, but they’re driving black SUVs and have a head start on us. They could be anywhere by now.” The sheriff tossed him a phone. “Found this on the floor. Is it Rachelle’s?”

Rage swelled inside him. “Yeah, it is.” Whoever these men were, they’d regret the day they laid their hands on his woman.

“Tracking her phone is out, then.”

“Got it covered.” Thank God he’d thought ahead to this possibility. He called Zane.

“What do you need?” his friend asked.

“Activate my trackers. Rachelle is wearing two of them. A group of armed men kidnapped her.”

After a flurry of typing, the tech wizard said, “Done. I sent the link to your phone. How else can I help?”

Cal glanced at David. “License plates?” The chief of police raised his eyebrows but rattled off the tags which Cal relayed to Zane.

“Got it.”

“Probably rentals, but see what you can find.” He glanced at David again. “If you want Fortress to assist in identifying the perps, give us access to your security camera footage. We’ll send the footage to our head tech.”

David frowned. “We have our own system.”

“Ours is better and faster,” Jon said. “We’re wasting time. Do you want our help or not?”

The policeman exchanged glances with Levi, then gave a tight nod and led Jon to the safe room.

Cal said, “Jon is accessing the Rocking M’s security system. You should receive footage soon.”

“Copy that. I’ll watch the tracker signal. You’ll get her back, Cal.”

Yeah, he would. His hand tightened around the phone until his knuckles were white. “Thanks, Z.” He ended the call and checked his text messages. His heart squeezed at seeing Rachelle’s last message. He loved her so much he could barely breathe at the thought of what she might be going through at that moment.

Cal tapped the tracking link Zane had sent him. A blinking red light showed Rachelle moving quickly to the east. He frowned. Where were the men taking her?

Cal checked the map and sucked in a harsh breath. No. If he didn’t catch up to Rachelle soon, it might be too late.

“What’s wrong?” Levi demanded.

“Rachelle is headed toward the airstrip. I think they’re going to fly her out of here.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

Rachelle opened her eyes and frowned. Where was she? The familiar sound of an engine filled her ears. A plane? Why was she on a plane again?

Uncomfortable and unable to move, she glanced at her hands in the dim light. Adrenaline poured into her bloodstream. Handcuffs that bound her hands were attached to a chain connected to the headboard of a bed. Her arms stretched taut over her head.

How did she end up in this place? Her mind cleared in a rush. A thug pointed a gun at Mrs. Grady’s head and threatened to shoot her if Rachelle didn’t give herself up. She’d complied, unwilling to let the sweet housekeeper suffer. Her memory was blank after one of the thugs jabbed a needle in her neck. Whatever he’d shot into her system had knocked her out within seconds. She prayed the drug wasn’t habit forming.

Rachelle tugged experimentally on her wrists again and grimaced. She wasn’t escaping these cuffs on her own.

She snorted. As if escaping handcuffs at 20,000 feet would do her one bit of good. She couldn’t escape from the plane. Rachelle needed to conserve her strength in case she had a chance to escape once this bird was on the ground.

Determination grew inside her. Rachelle had to escape. If she didn’t, she’d never see the man she adored again. This was probably the handiwork of Falcon, and he didn’t have a reason to let her live. She was too dangerous to his aspirations to live in the White House.
