“Incoming call,” he said to Brent.

“On screen. Bridget’s official.”

“Excellent.” Zane positioned himself behind a computer near his boss. A moment later, the wall screen flickered to life.

The grim-faced man who appeared on screen had Bridget’s breath stalling in her lungs.

“How is my niece, Nico?” President William Martin asked of Shadow’s leader.

His niece? Bridget’s gaze shifted from the screen to Nico in time to witness the astonishing change in his expression from all business to a man utterly besotted.

“Mercy is fantastic, sir. She’s at home working in her studio. She’d enjoy hearing from you.”

The president’s niece was Nico’s wife? Bridget wouldn’t have suspected that connection. She considered what the media reported regarding Mercy’s abduction and rescue. Although the media credited a military group with her rescue, something told Bridget that Shadow was responsible for freeing Mercy.

“I’ll do that,” Martin said, his tone wry. “If I grab a minute between meetings. My daughter misses her cousin. Next time you’re on leave, perhaps you and Mercy can visit Charlotte, Griffin, and the kids.”

“I’ll see what I can work out. I miss playing with Sam.”

“What’s the latest, Mr. President?” Brent asked.

“CIA intel reports rumors of a big sale looming. Someone is soliciting bids for a large weapons cache, including chemical.”

“Anything specific?” Joe asked.

Frustration evident, Martin said, “Not enough. They think the potential buyers are in the US.”

“Stunning lack of information,” Ben said.

“I’m thinking about firing the lot of them and starting over.”

“We wouldn’t complain.”

The president’s mouth curved.

“We might know who’s selling the weapons,” Brent said.

Martin straightened, his gaze sharpening. “Talk to me.”

“Hugo Torino.”

“Pedro’s son.” He sighed. “Should have known the power vacuum wouldn’t last long. I didn’t anticipate Hugo taking over. He’s been more interested in his playboy lifestyle than his father’s business interests.”

“Hugo plans to surpass his father’s legacy sans the drugs. He’s focusing exclusively on weapons.”

“Lucky us. He’s targeting the US market?”

“That’s what we’re hearing.”

“Who are the buyers?”

“Gangs and militia groups.”

“Specifics?”

“Still working on it.”

“I want to know the minute you have names. Focus on Hugo. Once we identify the potential buyers, government agencies will handle them.”
