After breakfast, the operatives scattered to their surveillance posts while Cade, Sasha, Matt, and Delilah drove to Harmony. Matt dropped off Cade and Sasha near Sebastian’s house to keep watch. Easy enough to do since the man lived in a brownstone across from the coffee shop. The Ramseys would watch his place while they drank coffee and ate a snack.

Matt parked in front of the law office. Ms. Walters looked up when they entered, a smile curving her mouth as her gaze skimmed over Matt.

“Mr. Rainer. Welcome back. What can I get for you?” Her voice came out sultry.

Based on her expression and the glint in the woman’s eyes, Delilah had no doubt what Shannon’s assistant was offering.

“The forms for Delilah to sign, Ms. Walters.”

“Call me Cynthia.” She trailed her fingers from her neck to her plunging neckline.

To Matt’s credit, his gaze remained locked on the woman’s face. “The forms?”

Brows beetling, Ms. Walters rose from her chair. “Wait here.” She walked past them, deliberately brushing against Matt as she left the receptionist area.

“I might need a whip and a chair,” he murmured. “I feel like a juicy steak in front of a starving lion.”

A moment later, Shannon’s assistant returned. “Mr. Shannon will see you now.”

Giving her a wide berth, Matt cupped Delilah’s elbow as they walked to the lawyer’s inner office. After a quick knock, he opened the door and ushered Delilah inside.

“Ms. Frost, Mr. Rainer.” Shannon gestured toward the chairs in front of his desk. “I expected you last evening.”

“We were in Baxter’s when shots were fired yesterday,” Matt said. “Once the police allowed us to leave, I was more concerned with getting Delilah to safety than signing papers.”

Blood drained from the lawyer’s face. “Were you injured?”

Delilah shook her head. “We’re fine, thanks to Matt and his friend.”

“I understand the Randolph brothers were killed.”

“They were the ones shooting.”

“Why do something like that? There must be some mistake.”

“No mistake.” Matt curved his fingers around Delilah’s. “They deliberately fired into Baxter’s several times with rifles. More importantly, those two clowns were aiming for Delilah. You wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?”

A scowl. “Of course not. Are you accusing me, Mr. Rainer?”

“I’m asking questions.”

“Your questions are highly offensive to me.”

“My priority is Delilah’s safety, not your feelings.”

“Careful. Remember I am a lawyer. I’m not above filing a suit against you.”

“If you don’t have anything to hide and you’re not a danger to Delilah, you have nothing to worry about.”

“What possible motive could I have for trying to hurt Ms. Frost?”

“I can count more than $200 million of them. What’s your personal financial situation like?”

“None of your business.”

“You might want to rethink your stance. Delilah has been attacked four times in the past three days. If you’re not involved, you might want to watch your back. Everyone connected to her is a potential target. Tell me, Mr. Shannon, do you know how to protect yourself? Are you aware of your surroundings? If you aren’t, you should be for the sake of your health.”

“Is that a threat?” Shannon sounded outraged.
