“You don’t look so good.” He was directly in front of me now, so close I could smell his body wash. It smelled like the ocean. If I concentrated hard enough, I could hear waves crashing.

No, it was me crashing. Right into Misha’s broad chest. My legs were heavy, like sandbags instead of limbs. They refused to obey my brain’s command, whether I told them to stand, or walk, or anything.

“What’s happening?” I asked, clinging to the front of his shirt. Thank God he was so strong. If he hadn’t secured his arms around me, I would have face-planted on the floor by now.

“It’s probably the pill.”

“What? What pill? I’m not allowed to do pills anymore. I said no more pills. He hates pills. I promised! What pill, Misha?!”

“Special K,” Misha replied over the top of my muttering.

Goddamn that girl. “What happened to molly?” It had been years since I had molly, but at least I knew what to expect. I knew how long the rush lasted. This? This was new territory.

“Sergei moved into a new market.” Bravely taking one of his hands from my waist, Misha peeled back one of my eyelids. I blinked rapidly and yanked my face away from his hand. He promptly grabbed my chin and turned my face this way and that, his sky-blue eyes narrowed. “Stick out your tongue.”

I shook my head, or at least as much as I could with my chin still under his control. I wasn’t a damn horse up for auction. If his next move was to try and check my teeth, I had no qualms in biting him. Although from what I recalled, he liked it rough.

He glowered at me, his eyes even icier. “Can you breathe?”

“Am Inotbreathing?” I thought I was. My chest rose and fell in quick succession, but maybe I wasn’t actually getting any air. Maybe this entire conversation was a figment of my dying imagination. But if it was, where was Leander? As hot as Misha was, I didn’t want to die withhimon my mind. I wanted my brooding little otter, driving me insane with his sexy smirk while he recited Poe and gave me smoldering looks.

“Come.” Misha draped one of my arms over his shoulder, holding on to my waist tightly as he basically dragged me to the door.

“No, I need to sit down. Here. Right here.” I reached for my jacket as we passed, nearly falling over in the process. “Son of a…” The world around me spun. All of the black marble suddenly looked like a galaxy. No, a sinkhole, where the cracks and fissures were going to swallow me whole.

“You can sit out there, where I can watch you.”

“I don’t want you to watch me. I don’t want to be here. I want to leave.”

“You can’t leave.”

“Ineedto leave. Right now.”

“Nyet. Sergei has more business.”

“Fuck his business!”

“Shh. Don’t say that.”

With my free hand, I gestured as emphatically as I could while I switched to Italian. At least, in my brain it was Italian. I couldn’t really be sure what was actually coming out of my mouth, or if they were even individual words anymore.

“Fuck him and fuck his business! He drugged me, Misha. I could have a heart condition. I could die! Am I going to die? I’m going to die. You just implied I was dying. Fucking backstabbing Russians! I can’t breathe. Why can’t I breathe? Leander is going to kill me. Oh my God… Leander. Where is my otter? You have to go find him! Tell him I didn’t mean to! Oh my God. I can’t breathe anymore.”

Misha ignored me and my babbling, so I must have picked the right language. Or, it was completely unintelligible. Either way, he hauled me back to my seat out front with only the barest assistance from my uncooperative legs.

Sergei said something in Russian, chuckling, to which Misha replied with a shrug and two grunts that I think were supposed to be words.

The blonde in the red dress was still there. I smelled her before she even came into view. Thankfully, she’d turned her attention to another guest and was in the midst of stroking the man’s porcelain skin. A man dressed in an all-black suit wearing a severe look on his perfectly chiseled face.

“Perfect timing. Look who joined us,” Sergei said happily, gesturing to the most beautiful man I’d ever seen.

I gasped out loud, staring at the new addition with wide eyes. “Oh my God…”

Leander snatched the girl’s hand and flung it away from his face before he stood, his eyes locked on me, burning with the heat of a thousand suns. “Bennett.”

“Is it really you? How? What are you doing here, my love? You shouldn’t be here. Fuck me twice over with this goddamn day. Did he kidnap you too? Are you ok? Are you hurt at all?”

“Want to try that again in English?” Leander’s question was practically a snarl. Even if it was technically a question, I knew better than to answer. I also knew murderous rage when I saw it. He was so pissed, tendrils of red and black danced around him, like hellfire.
