Prologue

CROW

“Happy birthday, man.” I smiled, pulling King into a bro hug and giving him an extra hard pounding on the back. I was truly happy for my boy. We’d been through a lot of shit throughout the years, and we were finally home and settling.

“Thanks, Crow.” His eyes dropped to his girl and his face softened as he pulled her into his side. “I’ve never been happier.”

I believed him. If anyone deserved to be happy, it was King.

He and Zo were moving at warp speed and even though he vowed never to tie the knot again, I had a feeling it was only a matter of time before he popped the question and made her his queen.

Things were changing.

I glanced across the room at Paisley standing with her hand on her protruding belly. I pressed my hand to my chest. Every time I saw her, my heart felt like it skipped a beat. Paisley was beautiful, she always had been.

A curtain of dark hair hung to just above her ass, she had long legs that went on for miles, natural sun kissed skin, and plump pouty lips. She was a goddess with curves in all the right places.

Feeling my eyes on her, she glanced over and frowned.

Fuck.

She’d been avoiding me since King and I got back to town, and I wanted to know why.

Like a prayer being answered by the Gods, she headed down the hallway toward the office. It was the opening I’d been waiting for.

Turning back to her brother, I squeezed his shoulder and took off after her.

My heart picked up speed when I stepped into the office. It was time to sort things out.

Sensing she was no longer alone, P spun around and froze. “I’m not doing this today,Crow. It’s my brother’s birthday.”

Crow.

My eyes narrowed. “Stop calling me that.”

She flinched but recovered quickly. “What do you want?”

“We need to talk, Paisley.”

“This isn’t the time,” she hissed angrily.

I ran my hands through my hair. If it was up to her, the timing would never be right.

“You know, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why the fuck you’ve been acting like I somehow wronged you, P.” I looked behind me to make sure we were still alone, then moved farther into the room. “You’re the one who ran out on me. You didn’t even have the decency to say goodbye,” I growled, still pissed she’d snuck out on me.

Her eyes rounded and her hand covered her stomach protectively as real fear worked its way across her face.

What the hell?

My eyed dropped to the swell beneath her fingers.

“Whose baby is it, P?” I asked carefully. It’d been eight months since I woke up naked and alone in her Vegas suite. Eight months of wondering why the hell she left without a word.

“It doesn’t matter,” she hissed, eyes wild as she glanced toward the door.

The fuck it didn’t.

I flicked my eyes from her belly to the scared look on her face and back again as the dots started connecting. “It’s been eight months since?—”
