That was when she realized how much it actually bothered her. She had found herself looking back and thinking about the times she had thought about that tea set.

Too many times.

“All right, I want you to close your eyes now.”

Margery closed her eyes and heard Daddy opening a door. He held her shoulders and helped her take a couple of steps.

“Such a good girl. Let me turn on the lights.”

She patiently waited for Daddy to do everything he needed to before he was ready. She wasn’t going to do the same thing. They were here, and she could wait a couple of seconds. Margery had waited over a day, which meant she could wait a little longer as she stood in the room.

“You can open your eyes now.”

Margery opened them and let out a gasp at what she saw.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

MARGERY

The first thing Margery saw was the bed, which had emerald sheets on it, her favorite color. Her eyes ran over to the left and saw cubicles full of coloring books, toys, and several stuffed zebras. But the thing that really caught her eye was the little table with a tea set on it.

A freaking tea set.

Tears pooled in her eyes as she stared at it. How did Daddy know?

“You can walk around and touch things. If you want to play with some of it, you can. Everything in the room is yours. And if you don’t like something or there’s something missing, let me know.” He was being so kind.

She continued to stare at the tea set on the little table. She had talked herself out of buying one for several years. Telling herself she really didn’t need one. But here it was; she finally had one.

Her Daddy had gottenher one.

“Margery?” Daddy gently said as he knelt in front of her. “Are you okay?”

“How?” she whispered.

“How what?”

“How did you know?” She was still shocked that there was a tea set in the room.

“Know about what?”Daddy asked. “Are you okay?”

She shook her head and sobbed. She wasn’t actually expecting to get a tea set. She figured it would have been another onesie or some coloring books. But she definitely wasn’t expecting all of this.

“Talk to Daddy. What’s got you crying?” His voice was laced with concern.

“How did you know about the tea set? That I wanted one?”

“When we were graduating, I asked about one of your favorite things you had as a kid. You talked about the tea set your dad got you. You sounded so sad about it, and I asked you what happened to it. You told me your mom got rid of it, and I knew then that I was going to get you another one so you could play with it whenever you wanted.”

Margery couldn’t believe he remembered that from over eighteen years ago. She had completely forgotten what she told him.

“I forgot about that,” she whispered.

“But I didn’t. I knew it was important to you, and I was going to make sure you got it. I know it’s eighteen years late, but you have the rest of your life to play with it.”

Tears ran down her face. Did he know how much this meant to her? It was like he was healing part of her inner child.

“I know, Little one. Come here.” Daddy held his arms open.
