Jynxson draws back and pats Camila on the head. “Glad you’re back.”

My brow pinches.

Camila glances at me and chuckles. “We broke up before the blast.”

I turn to Jynxson, my eyes narrowing. Before I can remind him of the threat I made about breaking her heart, he raises his palms and says, “She dumped me.”

The door swings open, and Isabel strides in holding a tablet. Her white coat is crumpled, and her hair is arranged in a messy bun, but she offers us a tired smile.

“Did you get any sleep?” I pull her into a hug.

She yawns. “Not until after the surgery, which went extremely well. The bullet nicked a rib, but missed all vital organs. With proper rest, Camila will make a full recovery.”

A weight lifts off my shoulders, and I exhale a long breath. Last night, her injury looked life threatening. “Thank you.”

Isabel steps back to address Amethyst and me. “Dr. Dixon needs you both to book thorough medicals. Especially you, Xero, after being involved in another fire.”

Before I can respond, Amethyst steps forward and blurts, “I’m sorry. It was me who set the crawl space alight. Will Xero’s lungs ever recover?”

I wrap an arm around her shoulders and pull her into my side. “I already said you were forgiven.”

Eyes softening, Isabel closes the distance between us and takes Amethyst’s hand. “You’ve saved Xero in more ways I can say by helping us capture Delta. Just take care of his heart.”

My gaze drops down to my little ghost, whose eyes shimmer with unshed tears. The three women I love most in the word exchange smiles, filling my chest with a profound sense of ease.

“Has he said anything yet?” Isabel asks.

I shake my head and grimace at the events of the morning. Father isn’t just a Moirai trained assassin—he’s its founder. He took great delight in explaining that our interrogation techniques would fail.

“It’ll take a while to break his silence, but I made sure he can’t escape. I extracted all his teeth and scanned him for trackers. The stubbornness will fade once it sinks in that he’s fully trapped.”

I bask in triumph for a few precious moments with my family before the reality of our victory fades. We still have one more enemy to vanquish—the Moirai. Even if Father releases the names of its management team, we still have to track each member. The only reason we found Father after a decade of searching was because Amethyst unlocked some vital memories.

With a sigh, I steer us toward the door. “I need to excuse myself. We need to attend a funeral.”

“Whose?” Jynxson asks.

“My mother’s,” Amethyst replies.

“What about Dolly?” Camila asks.

“Her body is also in the crematorium. Dr. Saint identified Dolly’s corpse as mine, so I can be declared dead,” Amethyst says, her lips twitching with a smile.

Isabel looks at me, her brows rising. “There are rumors flying around online that you killed her.”

I grin. “Let them think what they want. As long as the police stop hunting Amethyst.”

As we leave Camila’s room, we bump into Tyler in the hallway.

“Hey, Xero. I have a lead on Dr. Forster.”

“Really?” Amethyst says with a gasp.

He nods. “He changed his name to Corvelle after getting struck off following the raid. I tracked him down to a private practice outside Victoria Park. Should we bring him in?”

Dr. Forster was her mother’s therapist who sent Amethyst to the asylum and administered those inhumane treatments. The thought of my girl torturing another bastard from her past makes my heart thrum.

“What do you say, little ghost?” I ask.
