“Thanks. Fine, I’ll get up.” Tossing the covers aside, I rise and stretch, trying to work out the kinks. I notice Trix’s eyes flitting over my body and I flex a few times to give her the full Colt Wild effect.

She clears her throat. “I’ll, uh, meet you down there. I, uh, have to make a few calls, get some appointments on the books.”

It’s seven a.m., so I’m pretty sure that’s bullshit. No one’s making appointments this early in the morning, but whatever.

“Okay. I’m gonna grab a quick breakfast, then I’ll be down.”

“Hustle up.”

“Got it, boss.”

She trots out, my eyes following the swish-swish of her ass all the way out the door.

I hit the bathroom, splashing water on my face and brushing my teeth. Then I get dressed and pour myself a cup of coffee, scrolling through my phone.

A message from my oldest brother, Owen, pops up. Of course he’s awake at this hour, probably getting ready to brew up a new beer or something.

Biggest Bro: You have a suit for the ceremony, right?

I scrunch up my nose. Shit, I have to wear a damn suit to this thing? Bad enough I have to show up to some stuffy dedication anyway, sit there and rehash all the wonderful memories everyone has about my parents. The day’s gonna be long and sappy as hell, and now I’m gonna be stuffed into a tight-ass jacket with a noose around my neck.

Colt: I have a dress shirt. No tie or jacket

Biggest Bro: You have 2 choices—buy them or borrow them

My gut clenches. I hate when he bosses me around. Still doing it, after all these years. I’m fucking thirty-two years old and he’s acting like he’s in charge.

Colt: For real? Why?

Biggest Bro: Because this is a big deal, Colt. The local news is coming and it’ll be in the paper. You know Mom would have wanted you to look nice

Oh, dirty. Dragging Mom into the conversation.

Colt: Fine. For Mom. You think Justice has anything I can borrow?

I can practically see Owen rolling his eyes at my attitude right now.

Biggest Bro: Maybe. Ask him

Colt: Will do. Need me to do anything else besides dress up and be uncomfortable?

Biggest Bro: Yeah, don’t be a dick. And be on your best behavior. No fucking around with anyone involved in the ceremony. At least not until it’s over

Geez, with an older brother like Owen, who needs enemies?

Colt: Your faith in my ability to get laid anywhere at any time is transcendent

Biggest Bro: I wouldn’t have mentioned it if I didn’t think it was a distinct possibility

Colt: Fuck off

Biggest Bro: Yeah, that’s what I’m telling you not to do

Colt: I won’t

Biggest Bro: Call Justice. Get the suit and tie

Colt: I will
