LIAM

Having Macy with me in Malibu felt like a dream come true. Convincing her to stay was going to be another matter entirely. But for now, I did my best to just enjoy the moment, something my dad’s sudden death had taught me.

He would have loved Macy.

The thought struck me as I gazed over at her, lying on the beach blanket, her face lifted to the sun. The bright rays highlighted her prominent cheekbones, the slight smattering of freckles dancing across the bridge of her nose.

I could spend the rest of my life looking at her, memorizing every inch of her body, and still not have enough time with her.

I inched closer to her, our thighs touching, and levered myself up on one elbow. Staring down at her, my heart skipped a beat.

I was in love with Macy.

What would I do if she decided to stay in Peachtree Grove? Would I move there to be with her? Tell Benji ‘no’ on the winery project, leave my career behind and start over again? My chest squeezed at the logistics of that situation, but here in this moment I didn’t think I could live without her. I’d been walking around existing before Macy; now, I was living. Everything around me was more alive, vibrant. The air smelled cleaner, the ocean looked bluer, my bed felt cozier with her in it, beside me.

God, I was turning into a total sap.

And oddly, I couldn’t care less.

Damn, I was a fucking goner.

“Why are you staring at me?” Macy asked, her eyes fluttering open behind her sunglasses.

“Because you’re beautiful. And I can’t believe you’re here.” I ran my hand down her bare arm, trailed my fingers across her stomach, grazing her toned upper thigh.

She giggled. “You’re so ridiculous, Liam. I’m a normal, run-of-the-mill female. A dime a dozen. I’m sure hundreds—if not thousands—of girls would pay good money to be here on this beach with you.”

“First of all,” I said, dipping down and kissing the tip of her nose. “You are so very, very wrong about yourself. You are at least a twelve on a ten-point scale. I’ve no idea how you’ve managed to fend off all the men in Peachtree Grove, but thank goodness you did.

“Second, you’re anything but run-of-the-mill. Besides your exceptional good looks, you’re also fun, down-to-earth, and hardworking. Those traits aren’t the easiest to come by around here.” I pushed a golden tendril of hair off her face, tucking it behind her ear.

“And third, I strongly disagree that anyone would pay money to hang out with me. But thanks for the compliment.” I dropped my lips down onto hers, coconut lip balm and sea salt mingling on my tongue. “Mmm, delicious,” I murmured as she opened her mouth to mine. My fingertips lightly brushed her bright yellow bikini top, her nipple pebbling at my touch through the thin fabric.

Macy snaked her arms around my neck, pulling my body down closer to her, our torsos touching. She ran one hand through my hair, sending a hot shiver racing down my back. My cock twitched in my boardshorts, heat shimmering between us.

“It’s a shame we’re on the beach right now and not back at the house. I’d love to get you naked,” I whispered into her open mouth.

Her lips turned up into a smile. “I’d really love that, too. Should we head back up?”

I pulled away slightly, grinning down at her. “I think we have just enough time for a quick dip in the pool before we need to start getting ready.”

“I was getting a little warm,” she said, fanning herself with her hand. I chuckled, already gathering up the sunscreen, magazines, and water bottles, packing it all into the beach bag. Offering her my hand, I pulled Macy up to standing, wrapping my arms around her waist and giving her one last, long kiss before we left the beach.

We took the stairs at a rapid pace, racing up the sandy hill back to the house. My thighs burned slightly from the exertion, the task made more difficult since we both wore flip-flops.

Eventually, we reached the gravel path and the ground leveled out, the breeze cooler up here. I unlocked the gate, and we climbed the steps to the pool deck.

Tossing the beach gear down next to a teak lounger, I didn’t even bother rinsing my feet. I dove into the pool, the water invigorating me and chilling my skin. I surfaced, shaking water from my hair.

“You remind me of an overgrown puppy,” Macy said, laughing, as I continued to shake.

“Gee, thanks. Come on in, the water’s great.” I slapped the aquamarine surface, waves rippling out around me in concentric circles.

Macy stepped to the edge, gliding her foot through the water. “It’s kind of cold.”

“Nah, it’s perfect. You’ll get used to it. C’mon.” I swam towards her as she sat gingerly down on the edge, her legs dangling in the deep end.
