“Hey, Bets...” Everly rose from the couch and wandered to her bedroom, although her voice was so loud and animated I could hear her entire conversation. Sound really carried through the thin walls of this apartment.

I’d have to remember that if I ever went back over to Liam’s.

Which—to be clear—I wasn’t planning on doing.

I checked my watch. Liam would be here in less than twenty minutes and Everly didn’t sound like she was wrapping up her convo anytime soon. I probably wouldn’t have a chance to tell her about my date before he showed up. Le sigh. Hopefully he didn’t mention it or Everly would be seriously pissed.

Unlocking my phone, I ordered two large pizzas for delivery and wished for the best.

LIAM

Macy occupied my mind all day long. Her shy smile, her sassy wit once you got her talking, her luscious body. I wanted to see more of her. Much more. I needed to see her again, to touch her, to make her laugh.

Movie night would be great—Everly was nice enough—but I’d much rather be alone with Macy. I wasn’t sure how she’d react after last night, especially since she hadn’t responded to my text. Then throw her sister into the mix, and who knew? One thing I did know for sure—Macy wasn’t your typical girl. I’d never met someone like her before. She was an enigma and, not gonna lie, I liked it.

Knock, knock.

I shuffled nervously at Macy’s door, trying hard to quell my nerves and failing miserably. My gut roiled as if I were on the deep sea, not standing on the cement landing of an apartment building. Raking a hand through my hair, I tried my best to act casual.

“Hey.” Macy answered the door, leaning against the doorframe. Damn, she was sexy, even in a T-shirt.

“Hey.”Clever, Liam. Good job.I held up the brown paper bag I’d brought from the store. “Delivering on the popcorn, as promised.”

Her face broke into a bright smile. “Nice, thanks. C’mon in.” She turned and sashayed into the apartment, leaving me to follow. I did as I was told, working hard to not stare at her perfect ass.

The apartment was dim, quiet, and smelled like Macy. No sister in sight.

Macy must have caught me looking around because she answered my unspoken question.

“Everly’s friend had a relationship crisis, so she went to console her. So—we don’t have to do this.” She waved her hand back and forth, motioning between us.

“What?”

“This. You know, the whole movie thing. Everly invited you, but she’s not here, so you don’t have to stick around.” She pressed her lips together, her eyes glued to mine.

“What if I want to stick around? Is that a problem?” I asked.

“Um, no...”

I took a step towards her, close enough now to hear her inhale, a sharp, breathy sound.

“That didn’t sound very reassuring,” I said, dropping the popcorn down on the coffee table. My fingers itched to touch her, feel her smooth skin beneath my hands, but I didn’t want to overstep. Macy closely resembled a frightened alley cat at the moment, and I’d hate to send her running.

“It’s just...” She bit down on her bottom lip.

Like I wanted to do right now.

“Just what?” I asked, inching closer to her, slowly, carefully.

“Just...”

I stepped closer still, near enough to feel the heat from her body, catch the slight grapefruit scent from her shampoo. She inhaled again, and I couldn’t help myself. I reached out, touching her lightly on the hip, spreading my hand and pulling her into me. We stood facing each other, our eyes locked, our breathing synced.

I inhaled, exhaled, then took a chance. Bending down, I pressed my lips to hers. She hesitated slightly, then kissed me back, her soft lips brushing mine.

Electric. That’s the best—no, the only—way to describe the energy between us. Blood pumped through me, whooshing loudly in my ears, and the entire world spun, but in a good way. My hands moved from her hips down to the round curves of her ass, skimming over the denim and squeezing. I loved how she felt, soft yet strong.
