“Thanks, I needed that.”

“Sure, no problem. My shirt looks good on you,” he said, nuzzling up against me. “But it would look better off.” He kissed my neck, nipping at my tender skin, his fingers finding my bare breasts under the T-shirt.

“You’re insatiable. Don’t you think we should get some sleep?” I wrapped my arms and legs around his body as he lowered me back onto the bed.

“Nah. I hate to waste any time I have with you.” He pressed against me, and my body responded, instantly ready for him.

“If you insist.”

He sheathed up again and I kissed him hard, opening myself to him as he eased his way into me. All thoughts of Manhattan and rings and family instantly flew out of my mind as Quinn pumped into me and I answered his need, meeting him thrust for thrust. We found our rhythm and moved together, our breathing and our bodies perfectly in sync.

I quivered and Quinn held me to him, driving harder and deeper as I teetered on the edge, finally crying out. My body exploded as he climaxed inside me.

“God, you’re good. So damn hot,” I murmured into his skin, now slick with a light sheen of perspiration.

“Occupational hazard,” he said, grinning down at me as he swiped a lock of hair out of my eyes.

I smacked him on his shoulder. “Shut up. Just say thanks.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” He traced the line of my jaw, kissed me lightly on the lips.

“You’re something else, Quinn McCauliffe.”

“You sure you’re up for the challenge?” he asked, smirking, his eyes twinkling in the moonlight.

“You bet,” I winked. “Now good night. I have to get some sleep.”

I rearranged the sheets, burrowed down beside him. He grabbed me and pulled my body to him, his strong muscles hard against my back, supporting me. I snuggled into him, feeling calm and safe, despite the conversations and discoveries of the night.

“Hold up.” Mars waved his open palm at me, shaking his head. “You found the ring? As inthe actual ringhe gave his former fiancée?”

Mars and I were having coffee in the bakery kitchen while we prepped for opening. Quinn had dropped me off around eight, since I still had scones to bake. I could have asked Mars to do it, but I was already relying on him so much, I hated to put that on him too.

I nodded, leaning against the cool marble countertop. “Pretty sure. Unless he’s had more than one engagement, I’m assuming that’sthering.”

“Girl, I feel like you should maybe do a cleansing ceremony or something. Like that ring could be bad juju, you know?” He circled me, his hands fanning the air, fluttering my hair.

“Stop,” I said, rolling my eyes and punching him on the arm. “You’re being dramatic. It’s just a ring.”

“Don’t you think it’s weird that he still has it?”

“I don’t know. What would you do with an engagement ring?” I shrugged, biting down on my lower lip. This thoughthadcrossed my mind.

“Sell it. Pawn it. Melt it down. Anything to get rid of the bad juju.” Mars shuddered, a full-body shake.

“C’mon, Mars, they broke up, it’s not like she combusted due to her evil powers. I don’t even really know the details.”

“I know, what gives? When are you going to find out? I’m dying to know.” He sat down on a bar stool, chin resting on his hand, ready for the latest gossip.

“It’s a delicate situation, Mars. He’s not exactly the chatty type, in case you haven’t noticed.”

“Yeah, I definitely picked up on that vibe. But inquiring minds need to know. And by that, I mean you and me.”

“Obviously. Hey, something else big happened on the date...” I let that teaser hang in the air for a minute.

“I’m assuming you’re not talking about a physically large thing,” Mars said, narrowing his eyes at me.
