I wasn’t sure if I was more excited about our plans tomorrow night or what Quinn obviously had planned for the rest of this one.

Delaney’s alarm went off at the ass crack of dawn, jolting me out of a nice, deep sleep.

“Sorry handsome, I don’t usually kick hot men out of my bed this early, but you’ve got to bolt. I need to get busy in the kitchen and you are a major distraction,” Delaney said, leaning over me. Her dark hair spilled over her shoulders, tickling my bicep.

“So much for Southern hospitality. Good morning to you too,” I said, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. “I’ll go, but don’t think I’m happy about it.” I skimmed my palm over her bare, warm skin, sliding my hand down the curve of her back.

“Nice try,” she said, straddling me in one swift move.

“Do you think this is helping your case?” I grasped her by the hips, caressing the inside of her smooth thighs.

She laughed, a full, bubbly laugh, her eyes sparkling in the first rays of sunlight. “Probably not.” She bent down, placing her soft lips on mine.

“You’d be right,” I murmured, kissing her harder and deeper. I was ready for action now, my lower body tensed and hard.

Delaney pressed her round, full breasts up against my pecs, wriggling on my skin, then slipped her tongue into my mouth and moaned, arching her lower body into mine.

“Now you’re just playing dirty.” I thrust up against her, squeezing her ass.

“Yep. Rule number one: always leave him wanting more.” She whispered the words into my lips, then rolled off me, taking the sheets with her. “Scoot. I’ll see you later.”

I exhaled, long and loud. “You are one fierce tease, Delaney Miller.”

Reluctantly, I climbed out of her bed and scrounged around the room, managing to find my clothing strewn over the oversized chair in the corner. After I shoved my legs into my jeans, I strode over to Delaney, smacking her on her gorgeous ass as she fluffed the pillows.

Startled, she turned and I dropped a long, slow kiss on her lips. “See you tonight.”

I threw on my shirt and let myself out of the apartment, taking the stairs two at a time, moving through the dark kitchen, and exited out the back, as we’d discussed. No need for Kacie to see me leaving the bakery at zero dark thirty in the morning.

Cranking my bike, I zipped down the narrow alley. Two things were on my immediate agenda: a cold shower and a hot cup of joe, not necessarily in that order. Other than that, I had no real plans until tonight. Maybe a quick workout to keep my stamina up.

The scent of freshly ground coffee had me slowing my roll as I came up onThe Daily Grind.I parked my bike in the nearly empty lot and ambled in, still half asleep.

“Hey dude.” Josh threw me a quick wave from the counter as I walked in.

Super, I thought, my stomach tightening suddenly.Perfect timing.Suddenly, coffee didn’t seem like the best idea, but I couldn’t cut and run now. Too obvious. At least he has no idea I’m still wearing yesterday’s clothes.I prayed he wouldn’t ask why I was up so early.

“Hey.” We clasped hands, bro-style. “You coming from the station?”

“Yeah, just got off duty. Sue Ann was disappointed I missed the tree lighting last night. How was it? She said she saw you and Lanie together.” His brow was raised, his eyes searching my face for clues.

“I did see her, that’s right.” I acted surprised that he’d mention it. But of course he would. Sue Ann probably gave him all the details the first second she could. I liked her, but she tended to be a little on the gossipy side, just like everyone else in Peachtree Grove.

“The tree lighting was nice. I think the station got a lot of donations for the toy drive, so that was cool.”Chill, Quinn, you’re rambling.I took a breath, tried to reign it in.Why was I so nervous? Hell, this was worse than talking to my mom.

“That’s great.”

“Do you know what you want?” The barista interrupted us, cocking her head to the side, hand on hip, as if I were holding up the line. It wasn’t even seven A.M. yet and we were the only ones in the joint.

“Uh, yeah, I’ll take a large coffee, black.”

“Room for cream?” she asked, tapping away on the register.

“No, I’m good.”
