He laughed. “Appreciate the honesty.”

My eyes widened. “Not that I thought you’d be mean, just rougher around the edges.” I felt my skin flush with heat. “Sorry, I thought you would be different.”

“I’m lots of things, sweetheart.”

“I can see that and I’m sorry about my preconceived notions. But of all the things you are, Asher, is interested one of them?” My heart raced as I waited for his answer, wondering if this cut and dye job really had transformed me, even if only temporarily.

Chapter 2

Slate

Damn, the little blonde pixie was ballsier than I gave her credit for. I hadn’t planned on talking to anyone tonight, let alone flirting with them and taking them home. Not after the day I had with the Jade Skulls MC trying to home in on Steel Demons territory. If we didn’t figure that shit out soon, war was inevitable. It was a long day at the end of a really fucking long week, and the Jade Skulls tried to steal a shipment from us which meant we needed to retaliate in an appropriate fashion.

Normally I would’ve just stayed at the clubhouse with my brothers, but the club bunnies were ravenous, and I wasn’t in the mood for them. They served a purpose but for me, they had outlived their usefulness, so I left in search of peace and quiet elsewhere. I’d been perfectly fine nursing my whiskey and glancing at the pretty blonde without any expectations.

And then Vick approached me.

“Shit,” she muttered next to me and finished off her whiskey. “Too bold, right? What was I thinking,” she went on without letting me get a word in edgewise. She pulled out a twenty-dollar bill and smacked it on the bar. “Have a good night. Sorry to bother you.”

I reached out to grab her wrist before she could get too far away and tugged her close. “No bother at all. I promise.”

She huffed out an annoyed sound. “You took a long time to answer.”

“Sorry,” I apologized and circled her delicate wrist with my thumb and forefinger. “I was thinking what a nice surprise you are tonight.”

“Liar.”

I laughed. “Seriously. As you noticed I had a shit day, and I wasn’t expecting you at all. But I’m glad you’re here.”

“You are?”

I nodded. “I am. I am also interested, Vick. Very fucking interested.”

Her cheeks flushed prettily. “So you do want to get out of here?”

“Hell yeah. Let’s go.” I took her by the hand and led her out of the bar.

“Have fun,” her friend called after us, laughing loudly.

Out on the street, Vick stopped and looked at me. “We’ll have to go to your place, though.”

That brought me up short. “Husband or boyfriend waiting at home?”

“Hardly,” she snorted. “Long story short is I caught my now ex-boyfriend fucking my roommate and I’m staying with Sara until I can find a new place to live.” Her cheeks turned a darker shade of pink.

I took a step forward and leaned down, cupping her face in my hand and tilting her backwards. The need to taste her lips was strong and when she swiped her tongue across my bottom lip, I dove right in, attacking her mouth like a starving man.She tasted like whiskey with a hint of cherry, probably from whatever made her lips shiny.

She moaned into me and gripped my biceps before she pulled away with flushed cheeks, wide eyes and swollen lips. “Asher,” she sighed.

“I don’t think we can go to my place,” I said, knowing full well taking a stunner like this back to the clubhouse was just asking for trouble.

“What, wife or girlfriend waiting at home?” she sassed back.

I laughed, “None of the above, just I have a bunch of roommates. Come on, let’s find a hotel.” We walked about two blocks until we came upon streets lined with hotels.

Her grip tightened in my hand.

“Nervous?”
