“I know it’s short notice, but I was invited to a dinner party tonight with the hotel executives. Would you be open to coming? I don’t plan to stay long.”

“A girl never misses an opportunity to put on a pretty dress.” I flashed a smile trying to regulate my mind. For any other man, this would have been a full-blown argument.

“Well get dressed. An hour enough time?”

I nodded, happy he didn’t want to spend any more time on Devin’s ass. I jumped in the shower and wore a black and blue cocktail dress. Prince matched with a pair of black slacks, a black shirt, and a blue tie. When we walked past the mirror, I had to flick it up. I thought twice about Devin’s words. I had been doing a lot more on social media in the last few weeks. Especially after the launch of my business, but I knew uploading that picture would make that nigga’s chest burn, so I did exactly that. Fuck him and every lie he told. It was time for me to move on.

We were out of the house and riding up the elevator at the function, and for some reason, my stomach was in knots. I didn’t want to use Prince like that. The way he treated me and what this meant was more than a ploy to make Devin jealous. Eventhough Prince didn’t care about me uploading pictures of us, I didn’t want to do it with the wrong spirit. My eyes swept over to him while he texted Remy on his phone—hardworking man who could never shut his brain off.

When he saw me gazing, he smiled. He looked at the numbers on the elevator while it ascended and surprised me with a kiss.

“What’s on that pretty head.” He asked as we separated and the doors opened.

“Prince! You made it!” Someone greeted. An older white male stepped forward as we stepped off, and from there, the next hour was a whirlwind. Prince mingled from table to table with me at his side. It was impressive the way they all peddled for his attention. No one could stop talking about the mansions he was repurposing every place we stopped. He completed two, and he told me the showing went well when they stopped by, but the way these people were acting, he understated it. They loved his work. I had never been prouder to stand next to someone. It made me start calculating things I could do to take my business to the next level.

We finally settled down to the middle of the floor for a dance.

“We’ll leave after this.” He assured me.

“It’s fine. You aren’t going to eat?”

“This shit? Hell nah. Did you see the way it looks?” He asked as he braced my back, and we started to sway to the music.

“Stop it. I was trying to be nice. That food looks so damn bland.” I giggled through a whisper. His touch restored my calm.

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“I didn’t have time. I didn’t know I was walking in here with a celebrity.”

“You funny, but don’t dodge me. You okay?”

I took a pause.

“I don’t want you to think--”

“That’s already starting wrong. What’s on your mind, baby?”

“I’m over Devin. I can’t believe even after he did what he did he won’t stop contacting me.”

“I’ll handle it.” He spoke quickly.

“No, I don’t want you to get in trouble because he means nothing to me. I mean that Prince. I have no feelings left for him.” I looked into his eyes.

“I understand that, but if he oversteps, that becomes my business.” He looked back at me with the same intensity. “What else?” He pushed.

“Nothing else.” I looked at him slightly confused.

“You sure? Because once we get home it won’t be no talking.”

“I like the sound of that. I want to tell you I’m enjoying my time with you. I like being around you, Prince.”

“Good. I feel the same way. Did a package come today?”

I scanned my brain. Prince got packages every day, whether parts for the homes he was building or small little Knick knacks for the one we were currently staying in. Today, though, there was a small paper package that arrived, and I didn’t think anything of it until he said something just now.

“I did. What is it?”

“You’ll see. Are you sure that head is empty? I promise, with the way I’m feeling, and the way that dress got that ass looking, all I’m trying to do when I get home is take you to that room.”
