Page 99 of The Way We Play

I’ve never had a group like this before, and it’s like I’m part of a real family for the first time in my life.

“What will you do now that Miss Gina’s in Birmingham for the week? Do you have any plans?”

My lips twist, and I think about what I’d like to do all week. His name is Zane Bradford.

“Oh, I don’t know.” I shrug, thinking she probably doesn’t want to hear about my day-long sex marathon with her older brother.

“You’re welcome to hang out with us at the restaurant, but I warn you. I’ll probably put you to work.”

Sipping my coffee, I wink. “I don’t mind that. You have a fun job.”

“It’ll be pretty dead with people traveling, and we’re closed on Thanksgiving day.”

“No Dare dish?”

“Not this week, and I’m thankful for that.” She exhales a little sigh. “Logan is going to try and work less, so we’ll get to spend some time together. Maybe I’ll take Miss Gina up on her offer to use the guest cottage.”

“You will?” My eyes widen, and I try to remember the state we left it in yesterday in our hurry to get home for Edward. “I’ll get it ready for you.”

“You don’t have to do that!” She presses a hand on my forearm. “I’m perfectly capable of making a bed or airing out the sheets or whatever needs to be done. I wonder how long it’s been since anybody’s used it.”

She might be surprised.

“I don’t mind. I’ve got to run over there today anyway.” And practice some sexy massage on her brother.

“I’ll go with you!” She smiles big, and my heart stops.

“Oh! Ahh…” I exhale a nervous laugh. “You can’t.”

“Why not?” Confusion lines her brow, and my brain is scrambling.

“Because, um, Miss Gina…”Think think… “Oh! Miss Gina is expecting her Christmas gifts to arrive today, and I’m supposed to organize them for her.”

“That’s no problem. I can help you!”

“No, you can’t!” I shake my head. “She got something for you, and it’s supposed to be a surprise.”

Dylan’s confusion melts into a smile. “Are you serious? She didn’t have to do that!”

“I know, but you know she loves the holidays. And she made me promise to organize everything in her Christmas closet.”

“Okay.” Dylan skips over to the sink, and I nearly pass out with relief.

“I’d better eat something.” Lord knows with the things I have planned for today, I don’t want to have to stop for a snack.

I only want one snack. The thought almost makes me laugh, and Dylan’s watching me again.

“I think you’re hiding something.” Her brown eyes narrow, and I shake my head.

“Just Christmas things. Being Santa’s helper is fun.”

“Okay.” She grabs her coffee mug off the counter and goes to the door. “If you finish up early, come down to the restaurant. That brother of yours has been playing pool nonstop.”

That makes me pause. “Is it okay for him to hang out there today? I can take him with me…”

Please say no… Please say no…Please say no…

“No!” Dylan cries, and I almost faint again. “Eddie Nashville is not a problem. In fact, he’s a good helper, and knowing Miss G, she probably got something for him, too.”
