“I love you so fucking much, Leila,” he says with a soft smile, cupping my face in his hand. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, baby.”

My brows knit together, seeing his eyes sparkle as he looks at me, and I can’t believe how lucky I am that he saw me one day, and wanted me. That he wants me every day. That he loves me, and our daughter.

And before I know it, the words spill out of my mouth. “Why me?”

Chapter 8

My wife is so fucking beautiful.

Long, gorgeous, tanned legs I love, especially when they’re wrapped around my waist, or crushing my head.

Dark brown hair that spills down her back, which looks fucking amazing when it’s wrapped around my fist.

Big, green eyes that make me weak in the knees.

And a beautiful face right out of my dreams.

Seriously. Someone fucking pinch me because how the fuck did I get so damn lucky?

She’s the most beautiful woman in the world, even when her brows are knitted together and she has a frown on her face.

“What?” I ask, not understanding what she’s asking.

She swallows hard, my eyes following the movement of her throat. “Why did you choose me?”

My face falls into a frown. “Are you … are you serious?”

My girl lets out a sigh, and rolls her eyes, turning her head away from me. “Forget it,” she says. “It’s stupid.”

I tug on her chin to make her look at me. “Nothing you ever say or think is stupid, Leila,” I tell her, searching her eyes. “What the hell brought this on?”

She avoids my eyes, and shrugs, shaking her head subtly. “I was justwondering—”

“Why I chose you?” I interrupt, my jaw ticking as her eyes land back on mine. “You think this is a carnival game and I picked a random toy?” My eyes widen a little as I look at the love of my life asking me a question that breaks my heart.

“I didn’t mean it like that. I just …” She trails off, shaking her head.

“You’re the love of my goddamn life, Leila,” I tell her, cupping her beautiful face in my hands. “There was no choice involved. You and I werealwaysmeant to be.”

Her long lashes blink faster than normal, the tell-tale signs that she’s getting teary eyed. “We are?” she asks, her voice small and questioning.

I nod, a small smile tugging at my lips as I softly caress her cheek. “From the very first moment your lips touched mine, the choice was made for me,” I admit, remembering that moment as if it was yesterday. “I never even stood a chance.”

Her lips part on a breath. “But if you could choose—”

“You,” I say without an ounce of hesitation, wiping the rogue tear dripping down her cheek. “It’s you. Every time.”

She presses her lips together, and shakes her head, letting out a hard breath. “But why?”

My brows tug together. It’s been a while since she’s had a moment of self-doubt, and I promised her a long time ago I’d spend the rest of my life proving to her how much I love her, and how much I need her in my life, and how gorgeous she is, but I can’t help but feel my heart ache at hearing her question us.

“Have I done something to make you feel like you weren’t my one and only choice?” I ask.

It’s the hardest thing being away from her when I’m on the road for a game, but I can only imagine how much harder it is for her, being at home with Nova, and having to see me in the news, and on TV.

“No,” she murmurs, swallowing down. “Of course not.”

I shake my head, not understanding where this is coming from. “If you have to doubt how I feel about you for even a second, then …” I blow out a hard breath. “I know I haven’t been home as much, and now with another baby it’s going to be even harder, but …” My shoulders slump. “Maybe I should retire early or—”
