“Nuh booz pah,” he said to her as he cut the rope from her wrists, bringing Zodak’s muscles into a tight coil. “Ah syay twah,” he softly told her.

Zodak watched her slowly sit on the bed, clear eyes fixated on the Seer now who placed his hand on her head and whispered things he couldn’t hear.

The girl let out a gasp and Seer eased her down on the bed. “Sleep now,” he barely said before heading out the room.

Zodak watched her eyes slowly drift close as he shut the door and locked it. “What did you say to her?” he marveled.

“Just told her to be still and sit down.”

“And shelistened,” he whispered.

He regarded her through the wall of one-way glass and nodded. “Yeah. She did.”

He wanted to admonish him about the amount of darkness she held and his recklessness but remembered that light he’d called forth with a single word. As if reading his mind, he smiled. “Sorry about knocking you on your ass back there.” He leaned in closer. “You first official meeting with the light.” He patted his shoulder. “How was it?”

Zodak followed him down the hall. “Unlike anything I’ve ever encountered. There was no pain,” he recalled. “Only a…tremendous repelling.”

Seer’s chuckle held a boy-like glee. “I was as shocked as you were,” he assured. “Never saw anything like it either. I think we’re gonna have a lot of fun together, Brother.”

There was no glee in Zodak’s laugh. “I would not call that…funSeer.”

He appeared surprised as they strolled, his grin spread wide. “You said there was no pain!”

“Not from the light, no, but the wall wasn’t as kind.”

His laugh filled the corridor. “Maybe have the Kings make some special padding for the jobs.”

“Or perhaps don’t use so much force in your words,” Zodak suggested, feeling like it was a type of measure for it.

“Maybe I should just do this—” Seer held up a single finger at Zodak. “Or this?” He wagged the finger in anofashion followed by poorly stifled snickers.

“Or a simple brow raise,” Zodak suggested, bringing more of the same till it grew contagious.

“Maybe a brow wag and a little jig.”

Zodak’s guffaw bounced off the corridor walls at the moves Seer did with his hips. “I don’t know how potent my powers will be if I’m laughing.

“They might just enhance them,” he said, serious as can be.

He walked him to his land dragon in the garage. “What next with her?” he wondered, wishing he wasn’t leaving.

“You have my number,” he said, climbing on his bike. “Call meanytimeof the day or night if you need help with her.”

“Will you come running?”

He grinned as he put on leather gloves. “Not physically. You’ll be okay.”

“I see that you know this while not knowing.”

“You got it,” he said easily. “She’s yours to keep. And you’ll figure out how.”

Zodak thrust his hands into his coat pockets, ready to get out of the burdensome work clothes. “Keep your phone near.”

Seer chuckled and turned the key on his bike. “I’ll sleep with it.” He stomped down on the kicker, sending a grumbling echo bouncing off the cement walls in the underground space.

Zodak eyed his ride, nodding. “Beautiful machine.”

“Made by my Evequeespeciallyfor me,” he said with a secret wink that told of the strong bond between them. Zodak was not surprised in the least. The man’s light acted like cement glue with everything it touched. “I’ll call you,” he said, giving the throttle a good twist. He laughed when the pops hit the garage walls like exploding mini-bombs. Now, he wanted one.
