The way he says it comes off more flirtatious than he normally is, and she can't help but wonder just how drunk he is. "I guess, technically, I've taken you home four times now."

"Because you're an awesome chick."

They walk out to her car, and he seems to walk better than he has the past nights she's had to all but carry him into his place, and she can't stop wondering if he really does see her as a hot chick.

There's no conversation on the drive to his place as she stays stuck in her thoughts, and he makes her jump when he turns to her outside his place and says, "Let me pour you a drink."

"You love gin. I hate gin."

"I have more than just gin. I might've gotten those canned vodka shitty drinks you like."

Fanning her face, she gets out of the car. "Just take my panties now."

They laugh as they walk inside, and sure enough, he pulls out the drinks from the fridge. "You like the lime flavor, right?"

"I do. I can't believe you remember."

"I make note of things," he says and pulls out a bottle of water for himself. "I should probably be cut off for the rest of the night."

"Might be a good idea," she says and laughs.

Sitting next to her, he sighs. "I'm not good at this."

"At what?"

"Being someone's friend."

"I think you're doing a decent job so far."

His eyes stay glued to the counter. "But what if I don't want to just be your friend, Sutton?"

The words stun her. "What?"

"I haven't taken women back the past few nights because they don't really interest me. Which had me worried until I realizedthe only person I want to come home with me is you. You're not like anyone I've ever met before."

"You're drunk, Nelson. You don't mean that."

Nelson surprises her when he turns and kisses her. She tastes hints of the gin and tonics he downed earlier when his tongue rubs against hers, and she doesn't hate it. Not when he's this good of a kisser.

"Nelson," she says, pulling away.

"I like you, Sutton. A lot. And I've always thought you were cute. Then, when I got to know you better, it just makes you even hotter. Not in an outward way like a club bunny or anything, even though you are, but you're a good person. I've never met someone I thought was hot both inside and out before. And that sounds completely weird, but it's the only way I can describe it."

His words surprise her yet again. She thinks he's hot. She's always thought he was hot, but she doesn't look like any of the women he's taken home before. "Are you sure you actually like me? This isn't just a rebound thing from Daphne, and I'm just readily available?"

"I've liked you for a while, but you were either too young, or I was with someone."

"I don't know what to say."

"Say you'll stay the night."

Pulling away, she stands. "No, I should go."

His face falls. "You're not interested in me, are you?"

"I like you, Nelson. And I think of you as a friend. One of my best friends, actually, and you're one hell of a kisser. But if we do this, I don't think we can be friends anymore."

"Why not?"
