"Bodie... tell me about yourself," Cherry says and tosses her brown hair over her shoulder.

Giving the girl a sad look, she whispers to Colt, "He's not interested."

"Huh?"

"I'm from Black Valley, and I had a heart transplant recently," Bodie says.

Cherry’s eyes widen. "You're kidding."

"Nope," he says and pulls the collar down to show the start of his scar.

At some point, Lex hopes he won't have to do it anymore. Everyone will know, and it won't be a big deal. She can see how much it bothers Bodie to share the story so often, especially after what happened with his crazy ex.

"You're gonna have to start collecting beads for how many times you end up showing that thing. You're like a chick at Mardi Gras," Colt says with a wink.

"I'll take my shirt off for a bottle of whiskey," he jokes.

The two go back and forth like brothers while Lex is stuck being the mother figure. How the hell did that work out?

"You're not really interested in anything tonight, are you?" Cherry asks.

For the first time, he makes eye contact. "Sorry."

"It's okay. If you ever change your mind, you know where to find me."

She stands, and Lex takes note of her outfit. "Bodie, she has a nice ass. And she's wearing a revealing outfit without looking like she's going to hop out and start working the street corner soon after."

"She does look better than the other charter's girls," Bodie admits. "I'm just not quite ready for anything like that right now. Not after what happened with Evie."

"Want Lex to kick her ass? She will," Colt offers.

Nodding, she smiles. "I really will."

"No, that's not the answer. I wouldn't look away if it happened in front of me, though."

"Just give me the signal when you need me. It's been a while since I beat someone."

Colt narrows his eyes. "It's been like four months. Diane, remember?"

"That wasn't real. It was a hit to square us up. Make us even. That's not even close to what I'm capable of, and you know it."

Bodie laughs with them as the front door slams open, and a brunette Lex has never seen before bursts into the room.

"Where's the cowboy?" the woman slurs.

Dax catches her as she starts to fall, and Bodie stands up. "Jolie?"

"There's the cowboy. I knew I'd find you."

She pulls out of Dax's grip and stumbles over to Bodie, falling into his arms.

"She's not coming to our house tonight," Colt says. "I clean up enough vomit. I don't need hers in the house, too."

"Good point," Lex says.

"I don't think I could get her anywhere on the bike if I wanted to," Bodie says.

Dax shrugs. "Free room's the last on the left down that hallway," he says and points in the direction Bodie needs to go. "But if she pulls anExorcist, you're cleaning it up."
