Lifting an eyebrow, Colt just shrugs. "First of all, our house. Second of all, you knew this was how we were from the day you showed up. If you're traumatized, that's your own fault."

"Not as traumatized as much as jealous, I think," Bodie says. "But seriously, I need at least ten minutes before you strip her naked, okay?"

"The kids are awake anyway," Lex says. "You're safe."

Shaking his head, he walks into his room and sighs. What are the odds he'd run into Jolie after learning the truth about Evie? Especially as he imagined her while taking Evie to bed. The universe is starting to freak him out a little bit.

Chapter Eight

Summerville

Kara

Frank tugs on the leash as Kara walks around a neighborhood with the dog she's walking for a neighbor to make a little extra money. The older man pays her extra because he's a large, mixed breed that looks like at least part Rottweiler. He hasn't found many people the dog likes, let alone people who aren't scared of him. But she knows Frank is a big teddy bear.

She lets her mind wander as she walks around the fairly unfamiliar houses as they enter into an older development she normally stays out of. She thinks about how much her relationship with Chance has changed in just a couple of weeks. He's always been loving and affectionate, but it's clear he saw her a little broken before. When she was missing Dani, she knowsshe wasn't herself, but she hadn't realized how that changed Chance. But now? He can't keep his hands off her. For the first time in her life, she feels like a sex goddess with the level of desire he has for her.

They were always active, but they're up to a minimum of twice per day, usually more. He's been gone for the past four days on a run, and she can't believe how much her body misses the release she's become accustomed to. She opted for a longer walk, not just for Frank, but to help loosen up her legs for the night she's bound to have the moment Chance steps through the door. In a way, sex with him has been her form of therapy, and she hasn't been this happy in years.

The dog barks and pulls against the leash, tugging her arm.

"What's wrong, Frankie?" Kara asks, her hand reaching down to pet him. He's never done this before.

He continues to pull towards a house on the end of a street, and she looks around. Elm Street. She's seen the movies. Nothing good comes from Elm Street.

"Frank, stop it!"

Her phone rings, and she struggles to pull it out of her pocket. "Hello?"

"Baby, where are you?" Chance asks. "I'm home, and I've missed you."

The way he saysmissed youmakes her throb. "I'm on my way. I'm walking Frank, and he's having a bit of a fit."

"Do you need me to come help?"

"No, I've got it. I'll be home soon."

After hanging up, she looks at Frank, who continues to pull. "What is going on with you? I have to get home, Frankie. My man's waiting. You probably don't understand because you’re fixed, but I don't care."

She scans the area, thinking he's seen a rabbit or cat or even a squirrel. There are no animals in the grass or surrounding area, yet he continues to yank her arm.

"What's wrong?" she asks, and as she looks down at the grass again, she sees a woman staring back at her. A pale, dirty, and malnourished woman, and Kara gasps. Even after two years, she'd know that face anywhere. "Dani?"

Her hand lifts to touch the window, but she can only move so far. Like someone tugs at her arm like Kara tugs at Frank. Kara dares to step closer, and she gasps to see a metal shackle around her wrist.

"Hey!" a male voice shouts from the front of the house. "What are you doing?"

"Sorry, my dog saw something. I'm trying to get him," Kara says, fear washing over her.

"Get away from my fucking house, or I'll shoot that fucking dog!"

Frank growls and changes direction as the man, wearing a Kingsmen kutte, reaches for his gun. The woman disappears from the window as Kara glances back, and she wonders if she imagined her. But she knows she didn't. Not with the fact Frank saw her before Kara did.

"I'm so sorry. We're leaving," Kara says, yanking on the leash until Frank walks quickly down the sidewalk with her.

She breaks out into a jog until she reaches Jerome's house. He sits in his wheelchair on the front porch with a smile.

"How was the walk?"
