“I can’t tell you that,” he told the other man with a shrug. “That’s up to Jazz.”

Reginald finished his own drink as silence filled the room.

Leo looked down at his empty glass. “Do you want me to pour us another?”

Her dad nodded. “Is your relationship with my daughter serious?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Oh, stop with the ‘sir’ already. Call me Reggie,” he joked, surprising Leo enough that he stopped pouring.

“What kind of scotch is this?” He looked down at the fancy bottle they’d been drinking from. It had to be stronger than jet fuel if Dr. Kingsford was now laughing about the Reggie bit.

“The type that makes a man see what a fool he’s been,” Reginald quipped as he eyed Leo. “Now, tell me why you think you are good enough for my daughter.”

He took a deep breath. “Nobody’s good enough for Jazz, not even me.”

Her dad raised an eyebrow at him.

“She’s one of the best people I’ve ever met and even though I’m nowhere near good enough…she makes me want to try to be. I’d do anything to make her happy. If you want the truth, I can’t imagine a life without her. She’s the first thought in my head when I wake up, and the last before I go to sleep.”

“That sounds like a good start,” Reggie told him with an approving nod.

Chapter 26

“That went waaaaaay better than I expected it to,” Jazz breathed from the passenger seat as they were heading back to Lawrence. In a million years she never would have thought things would have turned out as they did, especially after such a rocky start. “I thought I was hallucinating when you called my dad Reggie! I can’t wait to tell Janet what you did tonight, your mom is gonna chew your ass out for the way you behaved.”

“It was worth it,” Leo laughed. “I told you things were going to turn out okay, didn’t I?”

“You sure did,” she chirped, giving him the credit that he was due.

As the truck exited the highway, she looked at him in question when instead of turning south toward town, he headed north.

“Where are we going?” she asked, narrowing her eyes at the sneaky smile he couldn’t hide. “What are you up to, Leo?”

“A little surprise,” he answered, driving them in the direction of the large lake on the edge of town. He took the turnoff for a popular fishing area by the docks. Pulling into a parking spot in the dimly lit lot, he turned to face her with a wicked smile. “Since we had such a good night with your parents we should celebrate.”

“With night fishing?” she asked, looking into the back of the truck to search for the poles that he normally carried.

“No fishing tonight, sugar,” he promised, unbuckling his seatbelt. “Something a little more hands-on.”

Jazz blinked, her heart beating faster at what he was implying.

“You want to get frisky? Seriously?” she asked, her whisper betraying the rising excitement she felt. “What if we get caught?”

“We won’t get caught. Come over here, sugar.” Leo held out his arms, waiting for her to climb into his lap.

She hesitated, biting her lip. “What if someone drives by?”

“I’ll be able to see car lights heading this way long before they get to us,” he pointed out, gesturing to the direction they were facing.

“Even if you’re distracted?” she asked, unbuckling her own belt.

“I’ll always protect you. I promise. Now shimmy out of those panties, darling.”

Jazz did as he instructed, her heart beating so hard she thought it might pop out of her chest. She thanked sweet baby Jesus that the size of his cab was extra roomy, giving her the space that she needed to maneuver. With her skirt pulled up to her waist and her pussy on full display, she studied his lap for a moment.

“You might want to unzip before I get over there,” she suggested, already a little breathless from struggling with her clothes.
