“Sugar, you are going to need to be a little clearer on what you mean. I feel like I missed something.”

“Is this just a hookup or—” Jazz stopped when Leo reached over and gently touched her hand.

“Jazz” he said softly, his voice softened as if he were talking to a frightened animal. “We arenotjust hooking up. That much I can promise you.”

“Well, then what the hell is this?” she asked, her heart beating so fast it felt as though it were going to fly out of her chest. That wasn’t the answer she’d expected. She hadn’t planned for anything more, she didn’t know if she could handle it.

Leo squeezed her hand, the pressure calming some of the anxiousness churning in her belly.

“This is us. We are two adults who find each other attractive, right?”

She nodded. There was no question about that.

“I want you and you want me. We don’t have to put a label on it if you don’t want to but know that I want you for more than one night.”

“What’s happening here?” She still wasn’t sure what exactly that meant.

“We’re together. While we’re seeing each other, there’s no one else. I’m with you and you’re with me.” He squeezed her hand. “There are no limits to where this can go, sugar. I’m gonna tell you right now that I’m hoping it goes pretty damn far but I’ll do my best not to rush you.”

“Rush me?” she snorted. Things were moving so fast she was getting whiplash. “I feel like I’m so far behind, I’m on an entirely different racetrack.”

“I’m sorry, sugar,” he apologized. “It’s just that I’ve had my eyes on you for years and now that you’re all grown up, I plan to have you.”

“You’ve had your eyes on me for years?” Jazz blinked in disbelief. She’d obviously had a crush on him but to her knowledge, it had always been one-sided. When the hell had this happened?

He nodded.

“The timing wasn’t right back then. We were both too young.” Leo let go of her hand to rub his scruffy jaw. “Now, I’m old enough to know what I want.”

“I need a minute process this,” she said, her brain still trying to wrap itself around that surprising admission. If what he was saying was true, it explained a lot of his behavior.

“Is it really that hard to believe?”

“I don’t know, maybe?” she answered. It was more unexpected than anything. “I mean, I know you want me. I want you too.”

“Good.” He nodded.

“I just wasn’t expecting any of…this.” Jazz chewed her lip nervously. She honestly hadn’t even considered the possibility. She’d been worriedshewas going to grow too attached, not the other way around.

“In my opinion, it’s destiny that we found each other again,” he told her with a grin. “We’re getting a second chance to see if this thing between us can be more. What do you say? You with me?”

Jazz blinked at the realization they’d made it to his house and were sitting in his driveway. She’d been so lost in her thoughts and what Leo was saying, she didn’t recall the second half of the drive at all.

“Sugar?”

“This is not what I’d planned for at all,” she told him, working through the tangle of thoughts jumbled in her head. “Are you sure this is a good idea?”

“It’s the best idea,” Leo said seriously. He stepped out of the truck and came around to her side. Opening the door, he held out his hand. “You ready?”

“I’m ready when you are,” Jazz answered, shivering at the heated look in Leo’s eyes as he assisted her down.

Chapter 17

“You kept your shoes on this time,” Leo teased between kisses as they bumped into walls making their way toward his bedroom.

“I wore sneakers,” she giggled, lifting a foot to model pink and white chucks before she kicked them off. “Remind me to pick those up later.”

“I may hide them so you can’t leave,” he growled against her neck, his teeth raking the sensitive skin. If he had his way, she wouldn’t need shoes—or any clothing for that matter—for a good long while.
