W: Nah, Will just got home. I’m going to snuggle with him while I can. Can we push lunch to 1?

J:No prob. See you then.

Walking into the laundromat, she couldn’t ignore the three TVs scattered throughout the area.

“Investigators think that lightning may be to blame for the flames that engulfed the old Fairfax warehouse off Sixth Street. The building has been vacant for some time, but still housed furniture and fabrics from the previous tenants. Firefighters battled the flames until early this morning. No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to the one building even though neighbors were evacuated as a precaution…”

The footage turned her stomach. From what the news showed, Will and the others had one doozy of a night.

“Are those dicks?” Winter laughed when Jazz gave her a container with a few cookies in it.

“Why, yes they are, and I have a couple dozen to drop off at the station after we finish eating.” She gestured to the small cooler that she had bought into The Tinderbox.

“I can’t believe you even put little squiggles of icing for the ball hair,” Winter snickered, pointing at the little curly ques decorating the cookies’ nut sacks.

“Of course, I did!” She was more than a little proud of how good the pubes had turned out. She’d been worried at first that she’d gone a little heavy handed on the ball hair but after a couple dicks, the curlies had evened out. Some of them just looked a little less manscaped than others. “I would have added a few veins here and there if I’d had the time. I was just worried they wouldn’t dry before I had to pack ‘em up.”

Winter was shaking her head at Jazz across the table while tucking the small plastic container into her bag.

“What?” she asked.

“I can’t believe you sometimes—”

“How are my favorite two ladies doing today?”

“Hey Joey,” she said, standing up to give the owner of The Tinderbox a quick hug. “We’re doing good. How’ve you been?”

“Always the same,” he said giving her a kiss on the cheek before moving to Winter. “I can’t complain. Is it just the two of you today?”

“Actually,” Winter said, looking over at her. “I forgot to tell you that Will’s going to come by for a quick bite before he has to head to the station. He’s on his way now.”

“Can we get an order of nachos to start?” Jazz asked, her stomach growling. “I’m starving. Peppers on the side?”

“Anything for you, doll.” Joey gestured to one of the servers changing the channel on the TV for someone at another table. “If you need something and don’t see me, just grab Josie. I’m waiting on a shipment so I might be in and out of the back.”

“No worries, Joey,” Jazz said with a smile, more than familiar with the way things worked. The Tinderbox had become one of her favorite places to hang out not long after the first time Winter’s fiancé brought them here. The food was great, the staff was fantastical, and the firefighters that frequented the place were hot as fuck.

“That guy is eating you up,” Winter said in a loud whisper from behind her own menu.

Lowering the large, folded plastic to look over at her bestie, Jazz cocked her eyebrow. The guy Winter was talking about wasn’t even looking in her direction. “Puh-lease.”

“There’s Will.” Winter raised her voice and waved. “Over here, babe.”

“Hey, Jazz. Hey, honey.” Will leaned over to give Winter a kiss hello before taking a seat.

“You should have Winter show you the cookies I made for her today.”

“Why is that?” he asked with an easy smile.

“Yeah, why is that?” A deeper voice asked from somewhere behind her.

Jazz stiffened in her chair as she shot a semi-panicked look at her best friend.

A heavy hand landed softly on her shoulder, sparking tingles where it touched before he moved it away.

“Hey, Leo,” she whispered. The words croaked out as if she had smoked a pack a day for the last fifty years.
