“And everyone will know I’m yours. When we claim each other and you mark me as yours, a notch will appear in my dorsal fin when I’m in my orca form.” I grabbed his wrist and pulled him against me, sealing our lips together in a hot, hard kiss. Felix’s skin was warm against mine, and I felt his cock going hard against my thigh. I wished I could throw him down on the beach and make him mine, but there were too many rocks for that to be comfortable. We kissed until we were breathless, Felix pushing his hands between us to rest on my chest while he caught his breath.

And his swollen lips, glistening in the dark, were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

CHAPTER

TWELVE

FELIX

Nero wearingclothes was hot as fuck, but Nero naked was unreal. His body was huge and made up of planes—no, slabs—of muscle, except just over his stomach, where he was a fraction softer. Shifters as a rule couldn’t care less about nakedness, but all I wanted to do was ogle my mate while he stood on a rocky beach bathed in moonlight. The scorching kiss we’d just shared had done nothing to cool my lust for him. If anything, his kisses had made my blood boil with the desire to drop to my knees and take his thick cock between my lips. He was delicious, and my mouth watered.

“Ahem.” Nero was smirking when I looked up at him from under my lashes. “My eyes are up here.”

Damn. Caught staring. Not that I’d been trying to hide it. “Well, while I would happily stand here, naked, and kiss you all night, I believe you promised to show me your orca.” I tried to affect a nonchalant tone I didn’t feel with my dick more than half-hard between my legs.

“I did.” He glanced out over the water for a second. “I want to try something, but I don’t want you to freak out.”

“You can’t say something like that without giving me more details.”

“Sea otters float together holding hands, right?”

I nodded. “Yes. Why?”

“I want to do that, but we’re going to have to get creative since I technically don’t have hands in my orca form.”

I waggled my eyebrows suggestively. “What did you have in mind?”

He swatted me lightly on the ass. “Cut it out. I’m trying to have a moment here.”

Tuning in to our bond, I realized whatever Nero was trying to ask was making him nervous. “I’m sorry. Go ahead.”

“Can we just swim out to the middle of the inlet first?”

“You don’t want to shift first?”

He looked at the ground, then at me. “I can shift on the fly if I have to, provided whatever water I’m jumping into is deep enough, but it honestly works better for me if I’m in water deep enough to accommodate my shifted form first. Less painful that way.”

“Oh, right. Sorry.” It wasn’t that I’d forgotten Nero was an orca shifter. My brain was still trying to come back online after he’d melted it with his kisses.

“Not a problem. The water here is pretty deep.”

“Lead the way.”

Nero stepped to the water’s edge, then into the surf that was gently lapping against the pebbly shore. His back was just as gorgeous as his front, and with the moon lighting up the night enough to cast dark shadows over his body, he looked like some sort of god come to earth, a god that had been tasked with keeping me safe.

“You coming?” he asked over his shoulder, catching me staring once again.

Still watching the way his body moved, I followed him into the cold water.

“Careful. There’s a drop-off here.” He leaned forward and dove under a small wave. Water slid over his face and body in glowing rivulets as it caught the moonlight when he returned to the surface, adding to the ethereal quality of the moment. It was on the tip of my tongue to say he could show me his orca later because I needed him now. But I didn’t get the chance as I hit the drop-off and kicked my legs to keep my head above water.

Nero swam over to me in three strong strokes and positioned himself so I could wrap my arms around his neck. “Grab on.”

The second my arms were anchored around his neck, he stretched out his body and swam toward the middle of the inlet with long, sure movements. I was a strong swimmer, but Nero was next-level. I felt his muscles bunch and pull against my body as he took us into deeper water. When he found the spot he wanted, he unwound my limbs from around him and pressed a soft kiss to my lips. Three days ago, when I’d met Nero at the police station, I wouldn’t have guessed there was anything gentle about him, but from the second we’d seen my trashed apartment, he’d done nothing but prove me wrong. I loved the contrast between what I saw and what I knew of him. I knew if he had the chance to beat the shit out of whoever was after me, he’d take it, no question. But I also liked knowing he was different with me.

“Can you float easily out here?” he asked.

“Of course.”
