“I’m aware.” River tossed her a smile.

“RL!” Zane called.

“Gotta go. My demanding hubby is waiting.” She grabbed a couple of cold bottles of water. “I know we’re hunting down enemies, but remember to take some time away from that, too, okay? And if that means jumping Sheridan, then go for it. You work too hard. Don’t forget to play.”

Turning on her heel, River headed back to the small apartment she and Zane shared. After finishing the rest of her water, Inda sighed. She felt awful lying about who she really was, though she’d tried not to tell too many falsehoods at dinner. Instead, if she felt like she couldn’t answer truthfully, she’d turned the question back around on Lucas.

Dropping her head back, she stared up at the ceiling. “What have I gotten myself into?”

Not tired, humming with energy that had to be redirected since she wouldn’t be burning it off between the sheets with Lucas, Inda decided to go up to the gym and climb the rock wall. She was really beginning to regret her decision about not banging Lucas.

An hour later, she’d climbed the wall twice, run on the treadmill, showered, put her pajamas on, crawled into bed and still felt on edge. It’s like her body was boiling, overheating, but she had no way to release the pressure.

Before she could think too hard or lose her courage, she grabbed her phone and pulled up Lucas’ number.

Thank you for a really nice night, she texted then hit send. Squeezing her eyes shut, she threw the phone down and cringed. It was after eleven o’clock and he probably thought it was a booty call.

She supposed in a way, it was. If Lucas was game, she wouldn’t mind a little sexting.

Chapter Six

Laying on the couch in a pair of loose pajama bottoms, Lucas was surfing the Dark Web when his phone buzzed with a text.

A text from Inda.

Curious, he opened the message and read it:Thank you for a really nice night.

It had been a nice night,he thought. Unfortunately, he hadn’t found anything of importance. But, damn, his little assassin was a charming beauty. If things were different…if she was just his assistant and not part of a terrorist group, she’d be there, right now, in his bed. He felt the potential, the magnetic pull, but he had to remain in control and keep up the charade. Inda was a cunning player and he couldn’t let his guard down.

Maybe, however, he could enjoy a few flirty texts. What could be the harm in that?

You’re welcome,he texted back.I had a really good time, too…

He hit send and set his laptop on the coffee table. Stretching his long legs out, he got comfortable, settling in and waiting to see if she had more to say. And she didn’t disappoint.

I feel like maybe our night ended too soon, she wrote.

That caught his attention. “And why is that, my sexy, little assassin?”

You’re more than welcome to come over,he responded and, for the first time in his life, sent a wink emoji. What if she did?Shit. He didn’t expect her to, but now he was damn curious to see where this conversation might go.

Inda:I’m already in for the night…

In bed?he wondered. His imagination went wild and his cock twitched. What was she wearing? Did she sleep in an oversized T-shirt or maybe a sexy tank and tiny shorts? Or, even better, maybe she had nothing on at all.

Swallowing hard at that last thought, he typed out a quick response:Already in bed?

Inda:Yep…and unable to fall asleep.

His fingers flew:Why’s that?

It was a loaded question and they both knew it. Those little bubbles appeared and he waited with baited breath for her answer.

Inda:Because I can’t stop thinking about you.

Bam! And there it was. The exact response he wanted. The twitching in his dick turned into a steady throb as he responded:Same. And it’s making me crazy. If you were here…

He hit send without finishing the thought. Let her wonder.
