Having fun was safe and what friends did.

Headlights bounced around them and he brought them to a stop.

He bowed and she curtsied before laughing.

“Goodnight, André,” she said, backing toward the curb where Asa had flung open the passenger door to his Mazda.

André just smiled and lifted his chin at Asa.

“How did it go?” Asa asked as he pulled away from the curb.

“It went fine,” she replied.

She watched André in the side mirror until she couldn’t see him.

GET A HOLD OF YOU

NIKKI

“How was the benefit?”

Nikki looked up from her phone. Johnny stood in the doorway of the control room for Studio X which was where she was due to be working the following day.

Asa sat beside her, headphones on. But she knew nothing was playing through those headphones.

“It was nice.” She shrugged.

Itwasnice. But it had left her with little flutters in her belly that she didn’t know what to do with. Hence why she was hiding in the control room with Asa.

If anyone could suck the sexual tension out of a room, it was him.

Just don’t tell him she said that.

Johnny nodded once. “Are we on schedule for the cat food jingle?”

“Actually, we’re ahead,” she replied, going back to her phone. “Sending them an email right now to let them know.”

Johnny’s shoulders relaxed just enough that she noticed. But she wasn’t going to point it out. They didn’t need the commercial jingles anymore to make sure the bills got paid. But he still treated every client like they were the last client he might ever have.

“Let me know if you need anything. I’ll be in Y with Shawn all day.”

She lifted her eyes to Johnny in interest.

“Messing around or…?”

Shawn was Johnny’s younger brother. Johnny had raised him when their mom had gone back to Honduras when Shawn was five. Shawn, now almost twenty, had his sights on being a rock star, much to Johnny’s dismay.

“He’s determined to do this thing and I’m not going to let it sound like crap so…” He shrugged.

Nikki bit her lower lip to keep from smiling and failed. “Let me know if I can help.”

He nodded his thanks, turned to leave, and doubled back. “Are you still out of here this weekend?”

She frowned at him, her mind blanking. Why would she be gone this weekend?

“For that board install in Malibu?” Johnny reminded, concern entering his expression. “Did they reschedule?”
