“If memory serves me, I believe we have,” I told her, as I came closer. “There was a question of cameras last time.”

“Ah yes, those damn cameras. Are there any?”

“Not that I know of.”

“You’ve checked?”

“I have not.”

“And yet you led me right back here again?”

“It’s where we wait before we go on.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. Will you be playing the first set with us?”

“Let’s talk about it after I get a shot of that whiskey,” she said, nodding towards the bottle sitting on the mirrored makeup table. “Anything’s possible after whiskey.”

“I’ll remember that for the future.”

I cracked open the bottle and poured us both a generous shot.

“Where’s the rest of the band?”

We had two more guitar players, Justine who played the slide guitar, and Larry, our drummer.

“They’re probably out front. They don’t have to hide like we do.”

“That’s where I should be. I might get into trouble back here. Especially after I drink some of this whiskey.”

“I thought you liked trouble. At least you’re dressed for it tonight.”

She gazed down at her clothes. A tight black skirt, high black cowgirl boots with some sort of red flowers running up the sides, a cream-colored top, and a cream-colored fringed jacket emblazoned with different-sized black stars. She looked as if she belonged on the stage with us. “This is tame. Besides, I’m not trouble. If anything, you three own that category. Just ask your fans outside.”

“We’re as timid as lambs.”

“More like tigers.”

“Are you doubting me?”

I handed her the glass with her shot of whiskey. She took it, clinked my glass, and poured it down her throat. I did the same.

“Now, where were we?”

“When?” I asked her.

“The last time we were in this room.”

“We were up against that closed door, half-dressed.”

“Sounds like we were about to have some fun.”

“We were, but you should know, there’s a good chance Kasey and Boone will show up soon.”

“They can watch,” she said, smirking.

“You didn’t just say that?”
