I then heard Ted say, “Damn!” A frying pan flew on the floor filled with even more scallops.

Then a different text came through.

Shannon:

Your brothers are all grown up, and can handle anything. I need you… NOW!

I chuckled, turned to my brother Ted, and said, “Figure this out however you can. I’ve got somewhere to go.”

“Got it covered,” were the last words I heard Ted say, as I made my way back to my office.

Jonathan:

On my way.

I ignored anyone and everyone who called out to me as I made my way to my office. When I walked in and saw my lover’s beautiful face, I knew nothing else mattered but what she was about to tell me.

My throat tightened in anticipation.

“Whatever this is about, know that I love you so much,” I told her, as I closed the door behind me and walked in closer to her.

“And I love you,” she said as she looked down at the floor, then back up at me.

“Whatever it is, I’m here. Nothing else matters but you and me. We can do anything, together.”

“Including making a baby?” she whispered.

“Of course, whenever we…” I stopped in mid-sentence. The thought catching in my throat as my stomach tightened.

A wide, beautiful grin stretched her lips and lit up her entire face. Her eyes sparkled with happy tears.

“Wait. Are you saying that we made a baby? That you’re… we’re… preg…”

“Pregnant? Yes. We made a baby, Gianni. You and me. We created another person. Sooner than we’d hoped, but…”

“E destino, like my mom likes to say. I was just thinking about… I can’t believe this… we’re parents. You and me. We made a baby! God, I love you so much.”

I took her in my arms then, and as I pressed her against my body, I couldn’t help the tears that pooled in my eyes.

“So, you’re okay with this? You’re happy?” she asked, her voice muffled on my shoulder.

I pulled back a little and gazed into her sweet eyes. “Did you just ask me if I’m happy?”

She nodded, as tears slid down her lovely cheeks, and I wiped them away with my thumbs.

“Yes,” I told her, right before my voiced choked. And when we kissed, it felt as if it transcended mere love and moved up into a category that words couldn’t describe.

We pulled out of the kiss, still embraced.

“I’m beyond happy,” I told her. “My mother can die in peace now.”

“Oh my God, your mother!” I could hear the apprehension in her voice.

“I’ll handle her, but yes, it’s going to be worthy of a Netflix movie.”

“Maybe we should keep this between us for a while.”

I liked the idea. “You mean like in our own little world?”
