I could never say it aloud, especially to my brothers, but I couldn’t wait to marry Dani and have our first baby. The whole thing was like a dream come true for me, and the sooner we could get that part of our lives started, the better.

Of course, I couldn’t even tell Dani those things… maybe Jonathan could, if he were still around, but he was pretty much gone, along with Shannon. Not that we needed either one of those cyber folks. Our sex life was off the charts, but still, with certain subjects, I couldn’t seem to get past my apprehensions.

The wedding and kids were two subjects that caused me to close in on myself. But tonight wasn’t the time to think about either of those topics. Tonight was all about celebrating a graduation and a new beginning.

I’d closed the restaurant for the private party, and even though we’d hung up a sign, I still needed two of our staff to stand by the door to make sure only guests came in.

Business was booming, thanks to everything that D&S PR had done to advertise the restaurant. Plus, I knew it helped that we kept the quality of the food at a high level. Nothing in the area even came close. Not only were we celebrating their graduations today, but today marked The Red Olive’s four-month anniversary.

I felt blessed.

Now all that was missing were the women of the hour, and I could sure use Dani by my side right about now.

Not only was I on my own with Stacy and Jerome Green, Dani’s parents, but they’d cornered me for twenty questions, which I thought I’d done a good job answering so far, but hell if I knew for sure.

They didn’t smile much, at least not Dani’s mom. She seemed to judge my every move. Her dad was friendly enough, but her mom… well, that was another story entirely.

I guessed that Dani and I would have to deal with somewhat difficult mothers-in-law.

“I understand you live in an apartment above this restaurant. Is that where you intend to live after you and Dani are married?” Stacy asked, with a slight grin, as if she were trying to be friendly.

“Well, we haven’t thought about it much yet, what with all that we have going on. But as soon as we do, Dani will get back to you with an answer. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to check on the kitchen staff. We’ll be starting to serve soon, and I want to make sure everything is perfect.”

As I hurried away, I pulled out my phone and sent an urgent text to Dani:

Gianni:

Please tell me you’re on your way.

When I reached the kitchen, Frankie said, “We just lost an entire batch of scallops. Unfortunately, I was in charge, and I overcooked them. I’m so sorry. We have to scramble now.”

My phone buzzed.

Dani:

We’re here. I’m in your office. Can you come on back?

I knew leaving my kitchen was impossible.

Gianni:

I’m sorry. I can’t leave now. Major problem.

Dani:

I need to tell you something.

Gianni:

Can you please just tell me here, in the kitchen?

Dani:

It’s very private.

Gianni:

Maybe it can wait?
