Jade looked at Sawyer. “Can I stay?”

“Sure. I need you to drive later, anyway.”

She cocked her head. “Is that the only reason you want me to stay?”

“No.”

Sage stood. “Okay. I’m going to just go, then. You two enjoy your day. If you need a ride back to the house later, let me know.”

Sawyer shook his head. “I think I can drive a mile home after dropping her off at your place.”

“Okay.” She looked at Jade. “I’m available if you need me.”

“Thanks, Sage.”

Sawyer got up and walked her to the door. “Thanks for the groceries. And the bear claws.”

“You’re welcome. What did J.T. mean about you sticking around?”

“I’m not going to go pro.”

Sage threw her arms around him. “That’s the best news I’ve heard in forever.”

He stepped away from her. “Just remember you said that in a few weeks when you get tired of me being around.”

“That’s never going to happen.”

“Hmm. We’ll see, I guess.” He opened the door. “Now get out of here. Go write your song.”

She waved at Jade. “See you later.”

He closed the door and turned back to Jade. “I thought she’d never leave.”

“Stop. You love your sister. And you’d be lost without her.”

“Hmm. I like her sometimes. And I might miss her a little bit if she suddenly disappeared.”

Jade stood and went to him, then took his arm. “I call bullshit on that. What are we going to do this morning before we go see J.T. and Joey?”

“We could take a walk in the snow.”

“To the pond?”

“Sure. Let me get my boots on.”

“And a coat. It’s cold out there.”

They left the loft a few minutes later and found Jake feeding the horses.

“Morning, you two. I saw Sage come down.”

Jade smiled at him. “Yes. We brought your sons breakfast.”

Sawyer took the hay from Jake. “We can feed the rest of them, Dad.”

“Are you sure you’re up to it?”

“Yeah. I’ll let Jade do all the heavy lifting.”
