Was this the part where I was supposed to say something about him not moving out, that if it is just him then I’m ok? That I don’t want him to leave, I just couldn’t handle Marcus or Devon?

Because that wasn't going to happen. I didn't realize Mike had morals that Marc and Dev didn't, but that didn't change the fact that he and I were not a good fit. Especially when it came to football season.

“Sorry to hear that, man.”

He finally looked up and asked me before I could ask him. “What were you doing at Brisé?”

“I was going to ask you the same thing,” I scoffed.

“I asked first.”

“The owner is a friend of mine.”

“Monday morning is a strange time to visit,” he pushed.

“I could say the same for you.”

He raised his hands up in surrender and shook his head, “Can I be honest?”

My eyes opened wide and I lifted one side of my mouth, “Please.”

“I got a major boner for the chick there,” he bit his lip and made a noise I wanted to hit him for. There was no way in hell I was going to let him think about or touch or anything when it came to Giselle.

“How do you know her?” I asked, intentionally not using her name.

“I don’t,” he scoffed. “I was going to go in and talk to her, fake having a kid that needed lessons or something.”

“Yet you ended up in the nail salon,” I deadpanned.

He laughed and stood up straight, “I saw a friend of mine through the window. I went and told her I had a boner and needed her help. Poor thing didn't realize the boner was for the dance lady. I waited outside until she was done and that’s when I saw you walking into Brisé with my girl.”

He sounded angry at this point, like I had infringed upon his territory. I didn't like the way he called Giselle his girl, but I refrained from telling him it was my dick she was riding the other night.

Maybe if he hadn’t disappeared all week, we could have talked about this before and I would have left her alone for his sake.

Probably not, but maybe. I could at least think of it that way if he wanted to start measuring our dicks where Giselle was concerned. One thing I knew for sure was that Giselle wouldn’t give my brother the time of day. She was way too good for him. She was too good for me, which is why this would never be more than sex.

But Mike? He was trouble on another level and Giselle would see through that. She wasn't the type of person to swoon over lies and words like “boner.” She would see Mike come in with his loose fitting clothes and patchy goatee and tell him to get lost.

On the other side, though, if Mike saw Giselle and was crushing, I wasn't sure what it would do to the little bit of brotherly love we had left if I told him she was mine.

“She’s just a friend of mine. I met her through Coach and helped her for a minute that morning.”

Mike was nodding and accepting my words but I could tell he was still bothered. “So that’s it?”

“That’s it,” I lied.

Mike pulled me into a hug and patted my back, “Sorry I avoided you all week, bro. You’re all I have left and I just don’t want there to be any shit between us. I know you need your space, I know you gotta do football and shit. I know I haven't always been the best support for that. I know why you asked me to leave.” He leaned back and kept his hands on my shoulders, looking me in the eye. “I was hurt when I saw you walk in with my girl, but you didn't know I was crushing so I shouldn’t have been avoiding you. We ok?”

I nodded and rolled my eyes. I had said it a million times—to myself, to Coach—Mike was not a bad brother. He would never hurt me intentionally. He knew we didn't see eye to eye and he accepted that time and time again. He would probably be excited if I went to work with him, but he knew football was where my heart was.

“I got my place,” Mike backed away and grabbed some keys off the bar. “I wanted to see you and chat this out, but I’m going home.” Mike winked at me and started toward the door.

Without considering how much I really shouldn’t ask, I was curious about one thing. “What did Marc and Dev do?”

Mike turned around and shook his head, “You don’t want to know lil bro, trust me. Just know I wasn't putting up with their shit and they’re out.”

“OK,” I nodded. He was right, I didn't want to know, but, “You going to keep pursuing Giselle?” I said her name without thinking, but I knew he would have found out somehow if he really wanted to.
